Roundup: Shawnee second, Wapak fifth in Division I boys golf sectional

TIFFIN — Shawnee and Wapakoneta advanced to district play with second- and fifth-place finishes respectively at the Division I boys golf sectional at Mohawk Golf & Country Club.

Shawnee’s Keaton McKinley finished third individually with a 78 on the par 72 layout. Jake Hutchins (81) tied for sixth and Sam Reed (82) tied for eighth also for the Indians. John Barker’s 89 was also used for Shawnee’s team total of 330, which put the Indians four-strokes behind Norwalk.

Wapak’s Tanner Sweede and Drew Zwiebel were among those who tied for eighth with 82s. Dusty Haggard (84) and Logan Miller (91) also had their scores count toward the Redskins’ team total of 339.

Elida’s Jared Ramirez (98), Lima Senior’s Latrelle Moore (97) and Celina’s Lance Mawer (96) had the low rounds for their respective schools.

The district will be held Oct. 12 at Red Hawk Run Golf Club in Findlay.

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee’s Sophia Fusillo and Bath’s Jaidyn Hale each had a goal. Shawnee’s Grace O’Connor had 11 saves in goal and her Bath counterpart Emily Rocca made nine saves.

FORT JENNINGS — Fort Jennings’ Madison Neidert and Marissa Krietemeyer and Miller City’s Kylie Niese and Megan Niese each had a goal.

LIMA — Cameron Worsham scores the game’s only goal. Teammate Ethan Kramer made six saves in goal to earn the shutout while Fort Jennings counterpart Cole Horstman made nine saves.

Ezra Deitering had two goals and Jerermy DeMuth, Isaac Fillinger, Zach Fillinger, Mitchel Konst, Corbin Ruck, Aiden Searfoss and Austin Wagner had one each. Nick Gable made five saves in goal to earn the shutout.

Logan Williams had six goals and Chris Reyes and Nate Allen had one tally each. Reyes also had five assists and Ace Gamble made five saves to earn the shutout in goal.

Kyra Clark had 14 kills and three aces, Abby Kennedy had 10 kills and Summer McCloskey had 28 assists and three aces for Allen East. Karis Wilson had 11 digs and six kills, Katie Prater had six kills and Aimee Rutter had 22 assists for Bluffton.

St. Marys 3, Bath 1

The Roughriders won 25-20, 23-25, 25-12, 28-26. Danielle Bertke had 22 kills, Makenna Mele had 14 kills, 13 digs and 10 aces and Madi Howell had 47 assists for St. Marys. Annika Heminger had 11 kills, Caitlyn Renner 33 assists and Eden Adkins and Annika Heminger each had 15 digs for Bath.

Riverside won 25-21, 25-16, 25-14. Anna Acklin had four aces and 10 assists, Sophie White had four aces and 27 digs and Heather Goliver had seven kills for Temple Christian.

LIMA — The Spartans won 25-20, 27-25, 26-24. Jurnie Phillips had nine kills, Lauren Zell had seven aces and 10 digs for Lima Senior. No Perry stats were reported by deadline.

POLK CITY, Iowa — UNOH could not overcome a 288 final round by Bellevue as the Bruins edged the Racers by one stroke (891-892) for the GV Viking Classic tournament title at the Tournament Club of Iowa.

The Racers’ Lewis Scott tied for fourth with a 219 and was named to the All-Tournament Team while Gonzalo Garcia-Parada and Reece Blair each tied for eighth at 222.
