90th birthday: Dicky Wapperom

LIMA — Dicky Wapperom is celebrating her 90th birthday with a family dinner April 2 in Columbus.

She was born April 2, 1926, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, to Cornelius and Cathrina Hak. On Feb. 9, 1950, she married Ties Wapperom.

They have three children, Vera (Denny) Collier, of Bear Lake, Michigan, Monique (Denny) Bryan, of Lima, and Randy (Dawn) Wapperom, of Lima. They have four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dicky, her husband and 2 1/2-year-old daughter came to the United States in 1953 from the Netherlands not speaking a word of English. She was a stay-at-home mom. After her husband retired, they ran a used car lot together. She enjoys sewing, knitting and crocheting. Until several years ago, the family enjoyed camping all over the United States.
