Even though the Rockets won the game it was not easy, as they had to stage a dramatic second-half comeback to collect the “W”. Bluffton jumped out to first half leads of 13-8 and 23-15. The Rockets began to soar offensively in the third stanza, going on a 14-9 mini-run to get back in the game. Trailing 31-29 entering the fourth quarter, P-G ended the contest on an 18-11 tear to collect the hard-fought victory.     LIMA - Move over, Indiana Jones. Lima has its own adventurer: Megan Dahill.Most recently, while serving in Iraq, she met the U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus.Megan is a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School. She is the daughter of Betsy and Mike Dahill, of Lima. After graduation Megan joined the Air Force and was appointed as a firefighter. She traveled to Korea, Oklahoma and Texas. Once she was stateside, she competed in contests for women firefighters in Texas, Florida and Wisconsin. Upon completion of her duty, she received a job as an independent contractor firefighter with the Air Force. She is stationed in the Green Zone in Iraq. This is how she had the opportunity to meet Petraeus.Her grandfather, Stan Sites, of Lima, said seeing Megan's photo with Patraeus made him think it was just some Army guy, "but if you look closely on the front of his jacket, it says his name." Megan was thrilled.Megan is off on another adventure with some friends taking a jaunt through Africa, traveling to Kenya and Nairobi. Her grandfather says, "She's not afraid of anything."UNOH students earn honors at national competitionLIMA - Nine University of Northwestern Ohio students placed in the top 10, and one student placed first, at the Business Professionals of America's national competition. This year's competition was May 6 through 10 in Reno, Nev. More than 6,000 students competed.Lisette Fokker, of Van Wert, won first place in advanced accounting and advanced word processing skills. Third place went to Steve Hulett, of Van Wert, for payroll accounting; and to Krista Howard, of Harrod, Jessica Schaffner, of Van Wert, Jenna Franz, of Continental, and Heather Nash, of Defiance, for small business management team; fourth place went to Steve Hulett, of Van Wert, for banking and finance; and Andrew Giles, of Findlay, for keyboarding production. Fifth place went to Stephanie Hoersten, of Ottoville, for digital medial production. tenth place went to Heather Nash, of Defiance, for fundamental word processing skills.The Business Professionals of America, formed in 1966, seeks to contribute to the preparation of a world-class work force through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.Celina youth raise money for World Vision and collect for area food banksCELINA - The Celina Christian Youth Council raised $3,371.50 for World Visionand during its 30-hour famine last month, and it raised two barrels of food and $130 for local food banks. Seventy-nine 79 teens fasted for 30 hours and collected pledges for World Vision. These teens built an outside cardboard box city to stay in during the event. Churches that participated were Celina Church of the Nazarene, Grace Missionary Church, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. John Lutheran Church, St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Wabash Valley Cooperative Fellowship. Next year's 30-hour famine will be held May 8 and 9. Quatman, originally of Lima, and Doyle Miller, of Lakeview, were inducted Thursday into 2008 Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.Since 1977, more than 300 people have been inducted. Native-born Ohioans or state residents for at least 10 years are nominated based on service to others and achievements after age 60 and for lifetime achievements that represent positive aging. Joseph B. Quatman helped establish the first facilities for mentally handicapped children in the county. As an attorney for 67 years and a former judge of the juvenile court and court of appeals, Quatman started innovative court-sponsored services for troubled juveniles. He helped establish Allen County's first parochial high school and established the county's first cable TV provider.He served on the Allen County Board of Mental Retardation and is a life member of such organizations as the Sertoma Club and the Knights of Columbus. He is also a member and past president of the Allen County Bar Association. For 40 years, he has been chairman of the Quatman Philanthropic Trust. He also volunteered at nursing homes.Having served in the Army Counter-Intelligence Corps., he remained active as president and chairman of the board of veterans organization.Doyle Miller has lived in Lakeview all his life and has dedicated that life to serving his country and community. He lost a leg during World War II. After returning home, he served as a rural mail carrier for 35 years.He pitched sandlot baseball for 9 years with a prosthesis before starting the Little League in Lakeview. He has coached girls and boys teams for 20 years. Miller has been involved with youths in many ways. He has served on the Boys State committee for 40 years. He has spoken for many years to classes about World War II and flag etiquette.He was named Outstanding Citizen at Indian Lake High School in 1991. At age 60, he did a 10-mile walkathon for AMVETS Post 39, raising $2,500 to purchase hospital equipment. He visits people who have lost a limb to reassure them life does go on. In 2006, the Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce named him Citizen of the Year.Margaret Reynolds-Van Waning, of Lima, also received recognition from the Department of Aging for Elder Caregiving. For eight years, she has cared for her stepgrandmother, Verda Partee, 104.Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 89 celebrates 25th anniversaryLIMA - Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 89 is celebrating its 25thh anniversary. Chapter members will lead off the Lima Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. Monday. The chapter has about 60 members. They meet at 7 p.m. the first Monday of every month at Memorial Hall. The chapter is planning a project to renovate the Schoonover Park island fountain. The idea is to make it a soldiers' fountain. The chapter also attends to MIA/POW flags around town.Van Wert Middle School students place in state championshipVAN WERT - Nineteen Van Wert Middle School eighth-graders captured the We The People ... The Citizen and the Constitution state championship. This chapter is a society of key women educators from the area.Theda Hankish and Auda Wetherill both received recognition for 50 years of membership. They received 50-year pins and red roses, which is the flower of this society.Hankish began her 40-year teaching career in Glandorf. She moved to Lima Central, where she taught home economics. She finished as a guidance counselor at West Junior High.Wetherill taught for 35 years. She was at Washington McKinley, South and then back to Washington McKinley. Now, she can be seen with husband Jack in a commercial for Lochhaven Apartments.
