    WAPAKONETA — 11:19 a.m., Mar. 21 — A man arrested in the death of a Lima man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.Matthew D. Pennington, 21, of Spencerville, entered a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court, according to Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon.Sentencing will come at a future date. Pennington faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The court terminated his bond.Pennington had been held in the death of Daniel R. King, 23, of Lima, on Nov. 2 after a shooting at a rural residence near the intersection of state Route 197 and state Route 66.A grand jury originally indicted Pennington on five counts, including murder, felonious assault, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated menacing and reckless homicide.Read more about this story in Saturday's The Lima News.

    LimaGerald D. “Babe” Goodman, 74, died at 7:20 p.m. March 9, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.He was born July 23, 1937, in Lima to John and Ada Marie Shriner Goodman, who preceded him in death. On June 17, 1956, he married Shirley Jean Hartman, whom he divorced.Mr. Goodman retired as an oiler for General Motors in Defiance after 33 years. He enjoyed watching sports, fishing, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a hard worker who was dedicated to his family. He was cared for by his loving wife and children. He was always willing and ready to help anyone in need.Survivors include two sons, Gerald Douglas Goodman Jr., and Douglas B. Goodman, both of Lima; three daughters, Cheryl L. (Paul) Griffith, of Spencerville, Geraldine (Phil) Pennington and Dorothy Marie (Howard) Winter, both of Lima; a brother, John Dale (Shirley) Goodman, of Lima; a sister-in-law, Judy Goodman, of Lima; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a brother, Dean F. Goodman; and his stepfather, John Wyatt.Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. Matthews Cemetery, Lima. Pastor James Mason will officiate.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.Arrangments are by Chiles-Laman Funeral Home.

Pennington, 22, entered the plea Friday in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court as part of a negotiated deal with prosecutors. Pennington was charged with murder, felonious assault, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated menacing and reckless homicide. The combination of charges could have put him in prison for life.
