O-G runs away from Wapak

WAPAKONETA - When Ottawa-Glandorf's standout running back Logan Kaufman went down with a season-ending injury two weeks ago, the Titans did not have to search too far for a replacement.

Tailback Jacob Lugo gave his team a little more confidence in his abilities as he rushed for 85 yards on 22 carries to help lead the Titans to a convincing 21-0 win over Wapakoneta on Friday at Harmon Field.

Lugo's solid running performance helped set up quarterback Taylor Kuhlman for three touchdown runs. Kuhlman (13 rushes, 37 yards) had runs of 1, 2 and 3 yards to cap off three scoring drives.

O-G coach Ken Schriner said when Kaufman went down with the injury, Lugo stepped right in to fill the void.

"He's a senior and our No. 1 running back," Schriner said of Lugo. "When it was his time, he was ready."

O-G (2-2, 2-1 WBL) scored on its second possession of the game.

After the Titans came up empty on its first drive - which ran six minutes off the clock - they came back after Wapakoneta's second possession and traveled 50 yards on just three plays. Lugo had a run off tackle that went for 48 yards to set up Kuhlman for the score.

"That was huge," Schriner said of the first two drives. "Offensively, we've struggled for the past couple games. It was nice to see us finish."

Wapakoneta (1-3, 1-2) struggled offensively in the first half. The Redskins recorded just 52 yards of offense and one first down in the first half.

"We have to find some consistency, offensively," Wapakoneta coach Doug Zimmer said. "In the second half, we did a better job. But, give O-G credit."

Wapakoneta's offense moved the football in the second half, ending the game with 177 total yards. Logan Erb led the Redskins with 48 yards on 13 touches. He recorded 45 of those yards in the second half.

O-G had 206 yards (151 rushing, 55 passing) of offense for the game.

Kuhlman completed 6 of 15 pass attempts for 55 yards. Schriner said Kuhlman is getting better as the season progresses.

"Taylor Kuhlman is a great athlete," Schriner said. "He's still learning the position. He's done a good job back there for us."

Schriner said his team has started to adjust to playing without Kaufman.

"We didn't do any wholesale changes ...we did move some people around," Schriner said. "But, that's what football is all about. When a guy goes down, somebody needs to step up."
