Roundup: Neuman wins sectional singles title; Swick, Bruin win doubles

LIMA - Elida's Evan Neuman won a Division II sectional boys tennis singles championship Saturday at Lima's Collett Street courts. Meanwhile, Lima Central Catholic's team of Adam Swick and Brian Bruin won the doubles title.
The top four singles and doubles placers move on to the district tournament next week at Port Clinton.
Neuman defeated Shawnee's Sam Rutter 6-1, 6-1 in the finals for the singles title after beating Kenton's Jordy Martin 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals. Ottoville's Brad Turnwald beat Martin 6-7 (8-6), 6-4, 6-1 for third place. Neuman, Rutter, Turnwald and Martin will move on to the district tournament.
Swick and Bruin defeated the St. Marys team of Jameel Brenneman and Michael Schmitmeyer 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the finals. Swick and Bruin beat Elida's team of Lance Blass and Brent Sahagun 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals. Blass and Sahagun beat Elida's Phil Kerkendall and Joel Perrin 6-3, 6-4 for third place. All four teams advance to districts.
HAGER WINS DI SECTIONAL
Wapakoneta's Alex Hager breezed to a Division I boys singles sectional title at Ohio Northern. Hager defeated Findlay's Seth Reed 6-1, 6-1 in the championship round after beating Perrysburg's David Hoops 6-3, 7-5 in the semifinals.
Hager will begin the district tournament Thursday at Sandusky.
TRACK & FIELD
Horn paces Waynesfield to NWCC title
LIMA - Waynesfield-Goshen's Gray Horn scored 40 points to claim boys MVP honors at the Northwest Central Conference meet at Perry. Waynesfield won with 186 points, followed by Fairbanks' 152. Upper Scioto Valley was fourth with 41 points, Perry followed with 35.
Kristin Burns of Fairbanks was the girls' MVP, her team won the title with 158 points. Waynesfield followed with 114 points, USV was fifth with 40 points and Perry was seventh with 17 points. For Waynesfield, Abby Gray won the 100 (13.2), the 200 (27.1) and the long jump 15-7 ½.
Bass win GBC title for Spartans
Lima Senior's Darren Bass won the shot put at the Greater Buckeye Conference Championships at Napoleon. Bass threw 59-feet-3 for the victory, he was followed by teammate Melvin Washington (49-9 ¼).
On the girls' side, Whitney Glover was second in the shot put (34-5) for Lima Senior.
Napoleon won the boys meet (146) while the Spartans were fifth (48). Findlay won the girls meet (134), Lima Senior was sixth (23).

TOURNAMENTS
Fairview 10, Paulding 2
Fairview had 14 hits in the Division III sectional win at Elida. Paulding finishes 12-10.
BASEBALL
REGULAR SEASON
Crestview 15, Lincolnview 3
Kyle Balliet, Ian Clay and Ian Zollars each doubled as Crestview bashed 13 hits. Zollars picked up the win. Josh Hoehn homered for Lincolnview.
Ottawa-Glandorf 8, Patrick Henry 5
Tyler Leatherman hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh for the victory. Alex Schomaeker got the pitching win for O-G.
Bath goes 1-1
Bath fell to host Thomas Worthington 4-3 but came back to beat Hartley 1-0. Stephanie Sanders and Shelby Snyder each doubled in the loss for Bath while Amanda Ricker went 3-for-4.
In the victory over Hartley, Snyder pitched a two-hitter, walking none and striking out five. Jordan Cogley smashed a two-out double in the fifth to score Alyssa Maag for the game's lone run.
