Crestview knocks off defending champion Minster

COLDWATER The Crestview baseball team knocked off two-time defending Division IV state champion and No. 1 ranked Minster 10-2 on Wednesday at Coldwater in a district semifinal.

Crestview will take on St. Henry at 7 p.m. Friday at Coldwater in a district final game. St. Henry beat Ottoville 6-2 in the second game.

Crestview began the game with seven runs in the top of the first inning and pitcher Damian Helm was strong from there. Helm went the distance and gave up two walks, three hits and struck out 10 in the win.

Helm also tripled, doubled and singled. Bryce Richardson tripled for Crestview (16-6) while Jordan Roop and Brock Rolston each doubled.

Devon Poeppelman doubled twice for Minster and Ethan Wolf doubled. Pitcher Adam Niemeyer pitched 6 1/3 innings of relief and struck out 14.
