Area athletes qualify for state track

TIFFIN — Columbus Grove had two individuals and a relay qualify for next week’s Division III state track and field meet on Wednesday, the first day of the Tiffin regional meet.



The top four individuals advance to state.



Senior Dakota Vogt won the discus with a throw of 162-feet-9 while senior Collin Grothaus won the boys pole vault with a 15-foot vault. The 3,200 relay of Jake Graham, Colton Grothaus, Alex Shafer and Alex Giesege were third in 8:18.34.



Bluffton’s Karli Leugers was fourth in the girls high jump with a 5-foot-1 mark. Leipsic’s Holly Averesch was fourth in the shot put (39-2 1/4) while teammate Derek Steffan was fourth in the long jump (21-0).



In the Division III opening day of competition at Piqua, Lima Central Catholic’s Mykale Rogers won the long jump with a 22-8.75 jump while teammate Jamir Coleman was third at 22-01.



In the 3,200 relay, Minster’s girls team (Katherine Burke, Kaci Bornhorst, Natalie Fausey and Julia Slonkosky) took first in 9:36.92. The Minster boys also won in 8:07.38 (Andrew Fausey, Andy Albers, Eric Dahlinghaus and Dominic Slonkosky) while Lincolnview took fourth in 8:14.82 (Kade Carey, Jeff Jacomet, Ben Bilimek and Bayley Tow).



Spencerville’s Lucas Shumate was fourth in the boys discus (150-6). In the boys pole vault, Anthony Huelsman was second (13-2), Ottoville’s Anthony Eickholt was third (13-2) and Minster’s Alan Tebbe tied for third (13-2).



Ottoville’s Tammy Wannemacher was fourth in the girls shot put (35-10). In the girls high jump, Marion Local’s Gina Kramer won (5-3) and Perry’s Lexis Davis tied for second (5-3).
