The Super Bowl can’t get here soon enough.

I know the Conference Championship games were only last Sunday, but the hype is already driving me crazy.

It began immediately following the Ravens upset win in New England versus the heavily favored Patriots on Sunday night.

Two major story lines emerged: Brothers will coach against one another in the Super Bowl for the very first time when Jim Harbaugh of the 49ers takes on John Harbaugh of the Ravens, and Ray Lewis’ retirement was held off for another game.

Ugh.

Did you watch the horde of media surrounding the Ravens linebacker as he knelt down on the field for what seemed like an hour doing whatever he was doing? Couldn’t one person there ask Lewis to pull up the back of his pants?

CBS announcer Jim Nantz was the first, of what will be like a thousand times, to ask the question of the Harbaughs: What will be it like to coach against your brother?

Ugh.

Brother Bowl? Bro’ Bowl?

ESPN talk radio has already buried the Super Bowl with its 24-7 coverage and analysis, and we still have more than a week to go before the big game in New Orleans.

I mean, come on man, we still have a Pro Bowl to play folks.

Pro Bowl?

Are you serious?

Really?

The Super Bowl should be this Sunday.

I can’t take much more of the hype.

Where’s Dancin’ with the Stars when you need it?

OTHER KOZA THOUGHTS:

* I do remember each of the previous 46 Super Bowls. I don’t have a favorite since the Cleveland Browns have never been in a Super Bowl. My most memorable Super Bowl was the 1982 game in which San Francisco defeated the Bengals 26-21.

* The Browns are one of only four teams that have not been to a Super Bowl. The others? Detroit, Jacksonville and Houston.

* The power of radio and newspaper. I wrote in this column last week and echoed the same sentiment on my radio show all week, that I think the best boys’ high school basketball team in Limaland is Lima Central Catholic. Last Saturday while wrapping up a radio broadcast of Ottawa-Glandorf and Lima Senior, a game in which the Titans rolled over the Spartans, a man came over to our broadcast location and yelled at me while I was still on live radio, “Koza, who do you think is the best team in Limaland now?” he boasted.

I said, “Sir, I am on live radio” as I muted my microphone to try and answer him. “I said it was LCC then and for right now I will stick to that. The T-Birds just beat Bath tonight (Saturday).”

“Oh, they did?” the man replied. And he walked away not saying another word.

LCC gave O-G its only loss earlier in the regular season and did it on the Titans homecourt to boot. But watching O-G last Saturday reminded me of watching a small college team. Man, they are good. And interesting that LCC and O-G could meet again in a Regional semifinal at Bowling Green on March 13.

* Congrats to the Lima Senior boys as the Spartans snapped a seven-game losing skid Tuesday night, ripping Toledo St. Francis. Shawn Allen’s club hadn’t won since defeating Oregon Clay on Dec. 14.

* All of the hype locally has been on Elida’s Dakota Mathias and deservedly so. The Bulldog junior has been special all year and is averaging more than 27 points a game. But there’s a young man at Delphos St. John’s named Curtis Geise who is a special player too.

And in his last three games, Geise has scored 27, 33 and 25 points and the Blue Jays won each of those games.

Geise is averaging 21 points per game while leading his team to a 9-3 record. And Geise is only 10 points shy of the prestigious 1,000-point plateau. On Friday, Geise leads St. John’s into a big game when his team plays host to the top-ranked Division IV team in the state in MAC rival St. Henry.
