Elida (11-7, 6-0 Western Buckeye League) at Bath (15-3, 6-0 WBL), boys basketball

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Elida handed Ottawa-Glandorf its first league loss of the season this past Friday, 71-64. Dakota Mathias led the Bulldogs with 30 points, while point guard Louis Gray added 13.

Bath is coming off an 80-53 thumping of Kenton. Bath was balanced in its scoring. Cole Chambers poured in 20 points to lead the Wildcats. Taren Sullivan scored 14 points, Conner Rockhold scored 11, while Hayden Atkins added 10.

Odds and ends: This game is for sole possession of first place in the WBL. In the Elida Tip-Off Classic in December, Bath defeated Elida in double overtime, 67-65. Look for another hard-fought battle on Friday.

Bath (14-5, 7-0 WBL) at Elida (8-12, 3-4 WBL), girls basketball

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Bath is coming off a 66-62 non-conference win over Marion Local on Tuesday. Alyssa Manley led the Wildkittens with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Emily Ruhe and Taylor Dackin both scored 15 points, while Maddie Dackin had 11 for Bath.

In WBL action, Bath defeated Kenton 97-51 this past Thursday. The Wildkittens had six players score in double figures. Tera Herr led Bath with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Ruhe scored 16 points. Maddie Dackin scored 13 and Aubrey Brandon added 11. Katie Dackin and Taylor Dackin each added 10 for Bath.

Elida was defeated by Ottawa-Glandorf 52-35 last week. O’sha Owens led the Bulldogs with 11 points. Against O-G, Elida committed 21 turnovers. In a non-conference game on Tuesday, the Bulldogs defeated Parkway 63-55. Kylie Downton led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Cassidy Slusher and Sabrina Kline each scored 12, while Owens had 11 points and nine boards.

Odds and ends: In Week 1, Bath defeated Elida 44-38. This game is big for Bath as the Wildkittens control their own destiny in the league race.

Spencerville (9-6, 5-1 Northwest Conference) at Lima Central Catholic (17-1, 6-0 NWC), boys basketball

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Spencerville rolled past St. Marys in a non-conference contest this past Saturday, 60-49. Derek Goecke led the Bearcats with 26 points. Zach Goecke scored 12, while Ben Bowers added 10 for Spencerville. In its NWC game against Delphos Jefferson on Friday, Spencerville rolled to an 80-32 victory over the Wildcats. Zach Goecke led Spencerville with 24 points.

Lima Central Catholic defeated a very solid Paulding team this past Friday, 58-52. Martyce Kimbrough led LCC with 16 points. Darius West scored 13 and Xavier Simpson added 10 for the T-Birds.

Odds and ends: A victory for Spencerville would make the NWC race interesting. LCC controls its own destiny. The Thunderbirds have now won 17 consecutive games.

Ottawa-Glandorf (15-2) at Leipsic (14-3), boys basketball

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday

After getting handed its first WBL loss of the season by Elida on Friday, Ottawa-Glandorf bounced back with a 74-54 win at Napoleon on Saturday. Against Napoleon, O-G had 10 players crack the scoring column. T.J. Metzger led the Titans with 19 points. Michael Rosebrock scored 14, while Alex Westrick added 10 for the Titans. O-G got out to a 17-point halftime lead and cruised from there for the victory.

Leipsic is fresh off a 100-31 thrashing of Hardin Northern this past weekend. The Vikings were led by Devon Mangas’ 19 points. Mitch Kuhlman scored 18, while Derek Steffan had 14 points for Leipsic. On the season, Leipsic has scored 100-or-more points twice and over 90 points once.

Odds and ends: Despite being in different conferences and different divisions, these two Putnam County schools are big rivals. Look for a hard-fought battle on Saturday.

Sectional swimming

When: 11 a.m. Saturday

Where: Lima YMCA

Most of the area swim teams will compete at the sectional swim meet Saturday at the Lima YMCA.

The following schools will compete on the boys side: Ada, Bath, Elida, Kenton, Lima Central Catholic, Lima Senior, Marion Local, St. Marys, Minster, New Bremen, Shawnee, St. Henry, Upper Sandusky, Upper Scioto Valley and Wapakoneta (15).

And in the girls competition: Ada, Bath, Elida, Kenton, Lima Central Catholic, Lima Senior, Marion Local, St. Marys, Minster, New Bremen, Shawnee, Upper Sandusky, Upper Scioto Valley and Wapakoneta (14).

The following area teams will compete at the Ayersville sectional: Celina, Coldwater, Defiance, Fort Recovery, Kenton (girls), Ottawa-Glandorf, St. Henry and Van Wert.

Odds and ends: Shawnee is coming off a very impressive showing at the Western Buckeye League Championships, winning both the girls and boys titles. Look for the Indians to be a force this weekend.
