LIMA — Racing fans from around the area are getting geared up for another exciting season at Limaland.

The Season Opening Shootout presented by Smith-Boughan kicks off the season Friday night at Limaland Motorsports Park and will feature NRA Sprint Invaders, K&N Modifieds, Bud Thunderstocks and as always the McDonalds Dash for Cash.

“This is our 16h year of operation and it is always a unique and exciting time,” Limaland general manager Bob Fricke said. “The veterans are always strong but we have some young guns coming in.”

Limaland will begin its third year as part of NASCAR’s home track.

“We’re back with NASCAR again this year with the title sponsor being K&L Ready Mix of NRA Sprints, which is great recognition for our area,” Fricke said.

Having ties to NASCAR gives Limaland drivers the chance to be recognized at the state and national level.

“It puts our drivers into a nationwide competition,” Fricke said. “This will hopefully get them noticed and bring good recognition to our track and community.”

Racing fans will also be excited for several special races throughout the 2013 season. Meet the Drivers Night will take place on June 7, Run for the Rabbit will be June 21, Speed Week is on June 28 and the 25th annual Brad Doty Classic will be July 10.

“The phone rings all winter from fans wanting to know who will take a hold of the track,” Fricke said. “They want to know who’ll get the points championship. Speed Week is always a main show for us, along with the Brad Doty Classic. These are special events for drivers and the fans. We’re just hoping for good weather.”

Fricke was also pleased to announce that there will not be any price increases for the 2013 season.

“We have a very successful schedule, with no gate price increase,” Fricke said. “It is important for us to keep it affordable.”

Fricke also stressed the benefits of coming to Limaland as a racing fan.

“This is a family friendly event and we want to be an affordable place to come out to on a Friday night,” Fricke said. “We have reasonable concessions with our $1 hot dogs. We just have to take it one week at a time with our seventeen week schedule. I do know that we are just ready to go racing.”
