ELIDA — Elida’s Michaela Black turned in a huge effort to help her team get the softball season off on the right foot with a 7-1 non-league win over Marion Local on Saturday.

Black pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12 and walking five. She also slammed a home run, a double, a single and two RBIs. Sabrina Kline doubled, singled and had 3 RBIs while Ericka Smith dobuled and had an RBI. Megan Wendel doubled for Marion Local.

Crestview splits doubleheader

CRESTVIEW — Crestview began the defense of its Division IV state championship by beating Marion Local 9-2 but losing to Edgerton 4-3.

Kiersten Hicks struck out 7 and walked 1, she also homered and singled in Crestview’s first game. Riley Guest and Terra Crowle both doubled while Mariah Henry doubled. Crowle took the loss in the second game, striking out 5 and walking 2. Mackenzie Riggenbach doubled and singled.

Perry sweeps Spencerville

SPENCERVILLE — Perry pitcher Abbie Patton picked up two wins in helping her team beat host Spencerville 5-3 and 8-7. Perry scored in the top of the eighth to grab the win in the nightcap.

Halie Johnson had 2 singles for Perry in the second game. Tori Johnston and Maddy Hollar each doubled for Spencerville in the first game. Alex Shumate had 2 singles and a double while Haleigh Mull doubled and singled.

Bath rolls past Shelby

BATH TOWNSHIP — Bath began its season strong, beating visiting Shelby 8-1 and 12-2. Kimmy Reynolds struck out 15, walked 1 and gave up 2 hits in the first game for the win. She also doubled. Jenna Hollar was 3-for-3 with a triple, 2 runs and 2 stolen bases. Abbie Price doubled.

In the second game, Camille Martin was the winning pitcher, fanning 8, walking 3 and giving up 2 hits. Martin doubled and singled, Kara Dienstberger doubled, Julia Miller homered and Alyssa Manley had 2 singles.

Shawnee cruises to two wins

BENTON RIDGE — Shawnee started the season 2-0, blasting Liberty-Benton 10-0 and 15-3. In the first game, Kay Shick singled, doubled and was the winning pitcher. Abby Hall doubled, Taylor Lucas tripled and both Shelby Lucas and Britt Lauck had 2 hits.

Lauck was the winning pitcher in the second game, she also doubled, tripled and had 2 singles. Shelby Lucas doubled and had 2 singles, Taylor Lucas doubled and had a single, Hannah Taylor doubled and singled twice and Kierstan Courtney tripled.


Fort Jennings 12-6, Lima Senior 2-1

LIMA — Fort Jennings swept host Lima Senior 12-2 and 6-1 to open the season. Kurt Warnecke was the winning pitcher in the first game, giving up 2 hits and striking out 3. Mark Metzger was 2-for-4 with a run and 2 RBIs.

Ryan Rau was the winning pitcher in the second game, which went five innings. He fanned 5 and walked none. Jared Hoersten was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored while Dylan Van Loo was 2-for-4 with a run.

Brady Allen doubled for Lima Senior while Wilcutt was 2-for-3.

Allen East 10, Pandora-Gilboa 2

PANDORA — Erik Neely Travis Wireman and Ben Rodriguez each doubled as Allen East banged out 11 hits en route to the win. Wireman went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs for the Mustangs.

Reed Hovest doubled for P-G.
