Bath is coming off a win over Dayton Chaminade Julienne on Monday, 57-49. Emily Ruhe led the Wildkittens with 18 points, while Taylor Dackin scored 15. Bath, who has been a streaky shooting team this season, shot a solid 56 percent from the field against CJ.
Shawnee was defeated by Lima Central Catholic this past Saturday, 50-29. Britt Lauk led the Indians with 10 points. Shawnee has lost its last two games. Last week, Shawnee lost a hard-fought contest to Elida, 43-40.
Odds and ends: This is a pivotal WBL game. Neither team can afford a league loss. Bath has defeated Shawnee the last 52 meetings. Last season, Bath won 59-37, handing Shawnee its first WBL loss of the campaign.
St. Henry (14-1, 4-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) at Delphos St. John’s (9-3, 4-0 MAC), boys basketball
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
No. 1-ranked (Division IV) St. Henry is coming off a blowout victory over Ansonia, 72-31. The Redskins’ last MAC game was against Marion Local last Friday in which they won, 55-37. In its last three games, the Redskins have won by an average margin of 33 points.
Delphos St. John’s defeated New Knoxville 65-47 in last Friday’s MAC battle. Curtis Geise led the Blue Jays with a game-high 25 points. Eric Clark added 12 for St. John’s. The Blue Jays have won its last three games.
Odds and ends: This game pits the only two unbeatens in the MAC. Both teams will be fired up and ready to claim sole possession of the conference.
Fremont Ross (3-11, 0-8 Three Rivers Athletic Conference) at Lima Senior (8-6, 4-4 TRAC), girls basketball
When: 1:30 p.m. Saturday
Fremont Ross lost to Lima Senior in the first meeting of the season (Dec. 10) 62-52. The Little Giants are coming off a 51-45 loss to Oregon Clay.
Lima Senior is coming off a win over St. Ursula Academy 70-63. Indiya Benjamin leads the Spartans, averaging 16.1 points per game. Stacia Allen is averaging 14.2, while Rion Thompson is contributing 11.6.
The Spartans are scoring 60 points per game, while giving up 56.
Odds and ends: This is one of those games where Lima Senior has to be careful not to have a letdown against a team that has been struggling.
Thunderbird Invitational, wrestling
When: Friday and Saturday
Where: Lima Central Catholic
This is one of the premier Division III regular season wrestling tournaments in the state. There will be 38 teams in the tournament. Dixie won last year’s tournament. Coldwater had the best local performance with a third-place finish, while Delphos St. John’s was fifth. At last year’s T-Bird Invite, Ayersville’s Cade Mansfield won the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award. Four athletes recorded their 100th career wins. Bluffton’s Zach Wilson, who is a two-time state placer, notched his 100th career victory at last year’s invite. Wilson will be one of the top wrestlers there this weekend.
Since the tournament began in 2004, Mechanicsburg has recorded the most team titles with four. Bluffton has the most team titles for a local team with two.
Western Buckeye League Swimming and Diving Championships
Where: Defiance Area YMCA
When: Diving competition is Thursday, starting at 3 p.m. Swimming will start on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Shawnee has dominated the WBL over the years. On the girls’ side, Shawnee has notched the WBL title the past 12 seasons (out of 15 seasons). Celina has been runner-up the past 11 seasons in girls competition. The Shawnee boys team has won it the past five years, while Celina has finished second the past five campaigns.
