BENTON RIDGE — Leipsic’s girls basketball team beat upset No. 3-ranked Patrick Henry 43-38 in overtime to win a Division IV district championship at Liberty-Benton on Saturday.
The Vikings (17-8) will take on Ottoville at 8 p.m. Thursday at Elida in the regional semifinals.
Leipsic outscored Patrick Henry (23-2) 10-5 in the extra period for the win. The Vikings began the game by outscoring the Patriots 13-2 in the first period. However, Patrick Henry fired back with a 14-7 edge in the second quarter before a back-and-forth battle ensued.
Haley Gerten scored 18 points, dropping in four 3-pointers, for Leipsic while Amber Gerdeman had 13 points and Shalynn Morman scored 8 points. Kelsey Tietje had 14 points for Patrick Henry.
