Prep sports: LCC outslugs Ottoville

LIMA - Lima Central Catholic wasted little time in putting its stamp on a non-league softball game against Ottoville. The Thunderbirds went on for an 8-5 win Wednesday night after scored six runs in the first two innings.

Emily Garlock picked up the win for LCC (4-12). She had six walks and didn't strike out a batter, but she gave up just four hits. At the plate, Garlock had a double.

Laurel Conrad had a triple for LCC and Emily Huffman had two hits in four at bats.

Sammie Modica had six strikeouts, but took the loss for Ottoville.

Delphos Jefferson 8, Wayne Trace 7

DELPHOS - Brittney Garza hit a single to center field to plate the tying and winning runs in the ninth inning to five Jefferson the victory. Garza finished with three hits.

Shauna Bowers picked up the win, going the final three innings and allowing one hit and one run with five strikeouts. Brooke Apple started for the Wildcats (8-8), lasting six innings.

Columbus Grove 14, Kalida 1

KALIDA - Kristy Birkemeier has three hits, including a home run, as Colubmus Grove pounded out 13 hits in its win. Paige Gerdeman and Jodie Birkemeier each added two hits.

Heather Bartz picked up the win, giving up just one hit.

The Bulldogs scored nine runs in the top of the first inning.

Parkway 6, Shawnee 5

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP - Sara King gave up seven hits and two walks, but she struck out six batters and picked up the win for Parkway.

Shawnee's Brooke Shultz was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Sam Robison added two hits for Shawnee.

Perry 4, Ada 2

ADA - Megan Patton went seven innings, giving up just two hits and one earned run to pick up the non-league win. She walked just three and fanned seven batters.

The Commodores are 14-5.

For Ada, Evanne Klopfenstein pitched her first complete game of the year, striking out two and walking one while giving up six hits and two earned runs. The Bulldogs fell to 3-14.

Baseball

Leipsic 6, Columbus Grove 5

LEIPSIC - A wild pitch scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to give Leipsic the win. The Vikings are 14-7 while Columbus Grove dropped to 13-6.

Nate Schroeder picked up the win.

Ottawa-Glandorf 8, Shawnee 7

OTTAWA - Alex Schomaeker pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh innings for Ottawa-Glandorf and picked up the win. Schomaeker improved to 3-1 while the Titans upped their record to 15-3 overall and 5-3 in the Western Buckeye League.

The Titans led 7-6 after two inning, but Shawnee (19-5, 6-2 WBL) tied it in the fifth. O-G scored in the sixth to take back the lead.

Hardin Northern 15, USV 3

McGUFFEY - Nathan Ruhlen, Anthony Hall, Jeb Bowman, Sheign Hopson and Cody Schlatter each had two hits as Hardin Northern pounded USV. The Polar Bears had 14 hits.

Dylan Shepherd was the winning pitcher, giving up one run in five innings with four hits and six strikeouts.

Wes Krummrey had two hits for USV.

Fort Jennings 8, Ada 3

FORT JENNINGS - Brad Trentman had two singles and three RBIs to help lead Fort Jennings to the non-league win. The Musketeers are 8-10.

Drew Mesker added a single and an RBI for Jennings.

Tyler Simmons and Nate Vermillion drove in runs for the Bulldogs (9-12).

Track

Shawnee sweeps dual

Shawnee won three of four relays on the girls side and beat Elida, 100-37, in a Western Buckeye League dual. Rachel Ciminillo won the 3,200-meter run for the Indians.

On the boys side, the Indians won two relays in an 84.5-52.5 win. Chase Violet won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs for Shawnee.
