FINDLAY-- Delphos St. John’s has already had one playoff matchup against the Blanchard Valley Conference.

Now it’s time for another.

Delphos St.John’s (8-4) will meet BVC champion McComb (12-0) in the Division VI regional championship game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Donnell Stadium.

In the first round, the Blue Jays defeated Leipsic 34-29.

And, just in case that’s not enough proof about the BVC being strong at the top, BVC’s Liberty-Benton knocked Lima Central Catholic out of the playoffs for the second straight year.

“You look at the three biggies in their league, Leipsic, McComb and Liberty-Benton and what they did to LCC,”St. John’scoach Todd Schulte said. “We know about Leipsic. We don’t overlook anyone who comes out of the BVC. They’re well coached and physical.”

McComb is averaging 47 points-per-game and is giving up 8.3.St. John’sis scoring 25 per game and giving up 15.

McComb runs a spread offense, with usually four wide receivers and one back. But it’s not the usually pass-happy spread like Kenton.

McComb tailback Jerry Brown (6-1, 190) has rushed for 1,560 yards and 23 TDs. He was named the BVC offensive player of the year. He also has 38 receptions for 561 yards and five TDs.

“He gets so much press and the headlines and we have to know where he is, but they have other weapons,” Schulte said. “(Cody)Wilsonruns the ball well.”

Cody Wilson has run for 800 yards and 15 TDs. He also has 42 receptions for 711 yards and nine TDs.

McComb quarterback Dalton Buck has completed 126 of 199 for 2,092 yards. He’s thrown 22 TDs and has eight interceptions.

Schulte has also been impressed by the Panthers’ defense. McComb defeatedArlington14-0 in the first round of the playoffs and Tiffin Calvert 42-0 in the second round.

Leading the way on defense is defensive lineman Michael Jones, who through 10 games had 84 tackles, 22 for loss, with seven sacks.

Wilsonalso plays linebacker and had 105 tackles, 21 for loss, through 10 games.

“People talk about their offense, but they’ve pitched two shutouts in the playoffs and that’s a concern,” Schulte said. “Their defense is built on speed. You hear about Touchdown Jerry Brown, but our focus is on the whole team. They have a very good defense.”

After getting by Leipsic in the first round,St. John’sknocked off Fremont St. Joseph 54-21 in the second round. The Blue Jays ripped off 47 unanswered points behind its ground game.

Blue Jays tailback Tyler Jettinghoff ran for 248 yards on 23 carries. Fullback Luke MacLellan ran for 147 yards on 14 carries. Quarterback Mark Boggs completed 5 of 8 passes for 73 yards.

Schulte said his team is getting more consistent the last several weeks, especially with its offensive line.

“We rushed for 457 yards against St. Joe’s and everyone wanted to talk about Tyler and Luke’s yards, but those yards were coming because of the guys up front.”

For the year, Jettinghoff has run for 1,768 yards and 19 TDs. MacLennan has 603 yards and nine TDs.

Boggs has run for 346, while throwing for 915 yards. He’s thrown six TDs.

Defensively, linebacker Brett Schwinnen leads the team with 109 tackles. Cody Looser had 98 tackles. Kody White has 83 tackles and seven sacks.

A huge key will be the Blue Jays’ ability to run their favorite toss sweep, along with mixing in the option against a strong McComb defense.

“They make the run game tough on people,” Schulte said. “We have to establish the running game and we have to have success early with it.”
