Records shattered on first day of WOAL Championships

KENTON - Four swimmers with the Westside swim program broke records on the first day of competition at the Western Ohio Aquatic League Championships on Friday at Kenton Municipal Pool.
Emily Murphy broke two records. She finished the 11-12 girls IM in 1:13.40 for one record then broke the 11-12 girls fly record with a 31.18 record. Sydney Meffley also broke the 50 fly record with a time of 33.01.
Katherine Reckamp, also of Westside, broke the 9-10 girls fly record with a 37.60 time.
After the first day of competition, Westside leads the combined team scores with 1,152 points after 78 events followed by Sherwood's 1,068 and Ada-Lost Creek's 870 ½ points. Shawnee Country Club has 828, Wapak Waves have 752, Bluffton follows with 620 ½, Van Wert has 491 and Kenton has 323 points.
Also on Friday, the Mayor's Trophy was presented to Gale Kaufman for volunteerism and dedication to Lima-area swim programs.
The WOAL Championships continue at 9:30 a.m. today.
