Clark steps down as Bath football coach

BATH TOWNSHIP - After a three-year stint as head coach at this alma mater, Todd Clark decided it was time to turn over the keys of the Bath football program to someone else. The Wildcats compiled a 7-23 record in Clark's tenure.

Clark was reached for comment, but he declined to state anything further than what was released in a prepared statement.

"I feel very blessed having had the opportunity to coach football at Bath High School for throughout the last 14 years," Clark said in the statement. "However, following consecutive seasons with a program plagued with issues beyond my control, it has become apparent that it is time for a change in leadership."

The Wildcats went 3-7 in Clark's first year, but slipped to consecutive 2-8 records. He is a 1989 graduate of Bath, and spent the six years previous to being named head coach as the defensive coordinator.

Clark replaced Jim Ehresman, who went 29-33 in six seasons. The Wildcats last went to the playoffs in '03, losing in the regional semifinals.

Bath last won a Western Buckeye League title in 1999, when it went 10-2 overall and 8-1 in the league with Jerry Cooper as head coach.

"I no longer feel that it is appropriate for me to continue in my current role as the head football coach," Clark said. "It is my intention to spend more time with my family and focus on my two sons."
