Butler getting his shot
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Shawnee, OSU product has plenty of basketball options
Former Shawnee High School and Ohio State University basketball standout Jamar Butler certainly has plenty of options. Despite not being drafted in Thursday's NBA draft, Butler has been invited to tryout with the New Jersey Nets. In addition, he has multiple options with teams overseas.
"It's not just an Italian team. There's teams in Germany, Belgium, Israel, Turkey, Greece, have all reached out about Jamar," Butler's agent, John Spencer, said. "We've got plenty of time. With Jamar's history and everything he's done at Ohio State ... I think he's set himself up pretty well for a nice little paycheck either in Europe or the NBA."
Butler was unavailable for comment.
If Butler sticks with the Nets, he could play with their summer league team, increasing his exposure. After that, his next step all depends on what the Nets choose to do.
"If he gets an invite to go to training camp in the NBA in October, then what we would do is hope he gets the invite and get an out-clause on a European contract," Spencer said. "We're going to do is keep all of our options open and if he has a good opportunity to go to Europe and play, we always have an out-clause for the NBA."
