Roundup: Hit batsman helps Miller City advance

St. John's, Jefferson move into district semis

 

COLUMBUS GROVE - With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth, John Leis was hit by a pitch, which scored the winning run as Miller City beat Cory-Rawson 4-3 in a Division IV sectional semifinal baseball game Thursday at Columbus Grove.

Miller City will play Leipsic at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Jared Niese pitched a complete game for the win. He took a no-hitter into the seventh and finished with 14 strikeouts and two walks. Leis and Mitch Wenzinger each singled twice.

Austin Mitchel singled and had two RBIs for Cory-Rawson.

Delphos St. John's 3, USV 0

Taylor Bowersock, Curt Metzger and Nate Webb each had an RBI single in the Division IV sectional tournament game at Perry. The Blue Jays advance to play the Columbus Grove/Pandora-Gilboa winner in the district semifinal game Thursday at Shawnee.

Delphos Jefferson 10, Fort Jennings 2

Sean Fisher and Cory Bastian each had a double and a single for the Wildcats in the Division IV sectional semifinal game at Crestview. Jefferson (13-6) will play Minster at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Coldwater in the district semifinal.

Matt Krietemeyer singled twice for Fort Jennings (8-9).

Botkins 9, Houston 0

Ryan Leugers raised his pitching record to 10-0 as host Botkins won the Division IV sectional final. Botkins will play Fort Loramie at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tipp City Tippecanoe.

Ryan Leugers doubled, singled and had three RBIs for Botkins, Caleb Koch doubled, singled and had four RBIs and Travis Dietz doubled and had two RBIs.

REGULAR SEASON

Pandora-Gilboa 2, Continental 1

The host Rockets scored the winning run on a walk in the PCL game. Pitcher Austin Blaski got the win for Pandora-Gilboa (11-10, 4-2).

Continental pitcher Nate Louiselle threw a complete game, striking out 15, walking six and allowing three hits.

LCC 10, Elida 6

Gavin Saine went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and five RBIs in the LCC win. Adam Fletcher doubled for Elida.

SOFTBALL

SECTIONAL TOURNAMENTS

Parkway 2, New Bremen 1

The Panthers scored twice in the fifth to win the Division IV sectional championship at New Bremen. Parkway will play Fort Recovery in the district semifinal at 5 p.m. Tuesday at New Bremen.

Paulding 3, Wayne Trace 0

Kelsie Carnahan pitched a two-hit shutout to give Paulding the Division III sectional semifinal victory at Elida. Paulding will play Fairview at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Allen East 11, Waynesfield-Goshen 1

Jodi Szizzle doubled and pitcher Chelsi Shoemaker got the victory in the five-inning Division IV sectional final at Spencerville. The Mustangs (11-7) will play Spencerville in the district semifinal at Spencerville.

Riverdale 7, Ada 1

Ron Grzybowski and Austin Everhart each had two singles but Ada lost the Division IV sectional game.

REGULAR SEASON

Continental 19, Pandora-Gilboa 2

Jonelle Doenges tripled, singled twice, scored twice and had two RBIs for the Pirates in the Putnam County League game at Pandora-Gilboa.

Allison McKean singled twice, had three RBIs and scored twice for Continental (15-4, 4-0).

Miller City 10, Tinora 3

Carrie Griggs was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Wildcats (10-8) in the win.

Delphos Jefferson 5, LCC 0

In a suspended game that began April 9, Jefferson added three runs to claim the victory.

TENNIS

Hager moves into semis

Wapakoneta's Alex Hager won two matches to move into the Division I sectional tournament semifinals at Ohio Northern. Hager, who qualifies for the district, will take on Perrysburg's David Hoops in the semifinals on Saturday.
