GIRLS



WAPAKONETA (3-3, 1-0 Western Buckeye League) AT ELIDA (4-1, 1-0 WBL)



When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday



Wapakoneta is coming off a 49-45 win over Allen East on Tuesday. Against Allen East, Nicole Brown led Wapakoneta with 16 points, while teammate Sara Warner added 13.



Elida is coming off a 64-28 road win over Defiance last Thursday. Against Defiance, Cassidy Slusher led the Bulldogs with 16 points. O’sha Owens and Kylie Downton each added 10. Elida opened up the game with an 18-0 run before Defiance finally got on the scoreboard. Elida is scoring 52.8 points per game, while giving up 43.4 per outing.



ODDS AND ENDS: Elida is on a four-game winning streak and has already matched its total wins from last season, when it went 4-17.



GIRLS



COLUMBUS GROVE (1-5, 0-1 Northwest Conference) AT LIMA CENTRAL CATHOLIC (2-2, 0-1 NWC)



When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday



Columbus Grove is coming off a hard-fought 39-35 loss to Delphos Jefferson this past Thursday. Against Delphos Jefferson, Rachel Schumacher led Columbus Grove with nine points, while Sami Stechschulte added eight points and six rebounds. Against Delphos Jefferson, Columbus Grove led at halftime, 25-16. The Bulldogs also led at the end of three quarters, 30-27.



On the season, Columbus Grove is scoring 42.8 points per game, while giving up 47.8 per outing.



LCC defeated St. Henry 55-36 this past Saturday in a nonconference battle. The game was knotted at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Thunderbirds pulled out to a 34-21 lead by the break. Meredith Shepherd led the Thunderbirds with 19 points, while Kayla Verhoff added 14 points in the victory.



Through four games, LCC is scoring 45.5 points per game, while giving up 41.



ODDS AND ENDS: This will be a pivotal NWC game for both squads. Columbus Grove will be attempting to snap a three-game losing streak. LCC is hoping to build momentum off its victory over St. Henry.



BOYS



ELIDA (2-2, 0-0 WESTERN BUCKEYE LEAGUE) AT WAPAKONETA (3-1. 0-0 WBL)



When: 7:30 p.m. Friday



Elida is coming off a 49-44 loss to Delphos St. John’s this past Saturday. Dakota Mathias is leading the Bulldogs, averaging 34.5 points per game. The Blue Jays held Mathias to 14 points, after he registered 40-point-plus performances in the first three games. On the season, Elida is averaging 59.7 points per game, while allowing 60.



Wapakoneta rolled past Ada this past Friday, 74-26. Three players scored in double figures for the Redskins. Alex Greve and Travis Bertram each poured in 19 points. Jake Buzzard added 12 for Wapakoneta.



The Redskins like to get it down the floor quickly. They also will shoot the 3-pointer when open.



On the season, Wapakoneta is scoring 64 points per game, while giving up 45.25.



ODDS AND ENDS: With it being the Western Buckeye League opener, both teams want to start off on the right foot.



BOYS



LIMA CENTRAL CATHOLIC (3-1) AT OTTAWA-GLANDORF (2-0)



When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday



LCC is coming off a double-win weekend. The Thunderbirds defeated Dayton Chaminade Julienne 47-44 on Friday and then rolled past Lincolnview 59-30 Saturday night. Martyce Kimbrough led the Thunderbirds, scoring 16 points in each contest. On the season, LCC is scoring 59.8 points per game, while giving up 49.5.



In its first two games of the season, O-G has won by an average of 54.5 points. In its first two contests, the Titans have averaged 82 points. Opponents have only scored 27.5 points per contest. In O-G’s 84-23 win over Fostoria on Dec. 8, T.J. Metzger led the Titans with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. The O-G defense helped cause 45 Fostoria turnovers.



ODDS AND ENDS: This matchup has developed into a fierce nonconference rivalry over the past few years.



ALLEN COUNTY WRESTLING TOURNAMENT



When: Saturday at Allen East



This tournament will feature many of the local high school wrestlers. Delphos St. John’s won the team title in 2011. The Blue Jays look to be competitive with nine returning letterwinners. Bath, who finished third in the Western Buckeye League in 2011-12, returns 10 letterwinners. There are a total of 10 schools in the tournament.



Bluffton senior Zach Wilson heads the list of returners. Last season, Wilson placed fourth at the Division III state tournament at 145 pounds. Wilson is a three-time Allen County champion. Bobby Sunderhaus (170, state placer) and Brandon McCormick (132, state qualifier) lead Lima Central Catholic this season. Shawnee’s Kane Plaugher returns as a two-time Allen County champion (126 pounds in 2011-12) First-round matches will begin at 10 a.m.
