BOYS GOLFAda

COACH: Mike Badertscher

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 16, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 4-20 (2-16 Northwest Conference)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Matt Gray, Allen Jenkins

KEY NEWCOMERS: Slade Downing, Connor English

TEE-TO-GREEN: Gray had a 42.1 stroke average last year. Badertscher is looking for an outstanding senior campaign from Gray, and hopefully filling in four other solid scores around him.

Allen East

COACH: Bill Mattevi

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 6, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 7-15 (seventh in Northwest Conference)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Dylan Mulholland, Cole Meyer, Tyler Stevens, Clay Plaugher, Tanner Richardson, Drew Swaney, Lucas Herrman, Zack Thomas

KEY NEWCOMERS: none

TEE-TO-GREEN: If the Mustangs can find some consistency, they could break their recent history of poor showings. Mattevi has eight different golfers with varsity experience to plug into the day-to-day roster.

Bath

COACH: Doug Davis

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: First season

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 4-9 (3-6 Western Buckeye League)

OHSAA DIVISION: II

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Matt Holt, Travis Reynolds, Reed Bok, Nathan Myers

KEY NEWCOMERS: Dean Bott

TEE-TO-GREEN: Davis might be in his first year as the golf coach, but he has more than enough experience as the Wildcats basketball coach. Holt has lettered all three previous years and will resume his role as the Wildcats’ No. 1 man.

Bluffton

COACH: Brad Prater

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 7, 141-30

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 19-12 (11-7 NWC)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Tyler Treen, Tyler Carroll, Tyler Johnston, Joel Ritter

KEY NEWCOMERS: Aaron Shaw, James Harrod, Rich Striecher, Bryce Johnston, Tyler Belcher, Brayden Clymer, Jack Neff, Eli Runk, Tristan Bischoff

TEE-TO-GREEN: This is an all-new team for Prater, but as he pointed out when he took over with a brand-new team in 2003, they made the state tournament four years later. There are plenty of numbers out for the Pirates, but is there quality? Time will tell.

Celina

COACH: Keith Vandeveuter

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 9

OHSAA DIVISION: I

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Brandon Casto, Alex Ray, Ryan Miller, Kaleb Kuhu

KEY NEWCOMERS: Stephen Fleck, Ryan Jenkins

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Bulldogs enter the season with a good group of young players who should improve with the season, according to Vandeveuter. The early season tournaments will be key to helping the group gain experience and confidence heading into conference play.

Crestview

COACH: Jeremy Best

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 10, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 10-16 (ninth in NWC)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Jared Hallfeldt, Jacob Wortman, Derek Bissonette, Zach Schaadt, Jacob Mengerink

KEY NEWCOMERS: none

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Knights have four returning letterwinners and four seniors, so experience shouldn’t be an issue.

Columbus Grove

COACH: Travis Gallmeier

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 4, 71-31

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 26-4 (16-2 NWC)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Taylor Giesge, Matt Silver, Jacob Roebke, Kody Griffith, Jeff Birkemeier

KEY NEWCOMERS: Nick Schroeder, Tony Koch, Blake Schroeder, Jordan Schroeder, Clay Diller, Josh Tussing, Brandon Hoffman

TEE-TO-GREEN: In a short four years, Gallmeier has helped build the Bulldogs into one of the area’s better programs. And with five of their top eight golfers back from a team that finished second in the NWC and advanced to the district tournament, the run of success shouldn’t stop soon.

Delphos Jeffereson

COACH: Chad Brinkman

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 2, 7-11

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 7-11 (eighth in NWC)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Nick Gallmeier, Alex Garza, Tyler Miller, Tyler Wrasman, Jacob Violet, A.J. Teman

KEY NEWCOMERS: Alex Ketchum, Kyle Berlesman, Jacob Hamilton, Ryan Bullinger, Carter Mox, Zack Wannamacher

TEE-TO-GREEN: Brinkman is hoping Gallmeier continues his improvement; last season was his first year of organized golf. Brinkman also mentioned freshman Mox as a player who could battle for a varsity spot.

Delphos St. John’s

COACH: John Klausing

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 2, 4-6

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 4-6

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Nick Kayser, Cole Fischbach, Craig Klausing, Sean Flanagan, Cody Kundert, Isaac Klausing, Eric Bergfeld

KEY NEWCOMERS: Jordan Keirns, T.J. Hoersten, Aaron Miller, Drew Wagner, Matthew Warnecke, Anthony Buzzard

TEE-TO-GREEN: After qualifying for districts last year, the Blue Jays are hopeful for a return trip with all of their returning experience.

Elida

COACH: Denny Thompson

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 28, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 4-7 (fifth in WBL)

OHSAA DIVISION: I

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Ian Haidle, Mike Lawler, Aric Thompson, Nate Cellar, Bryan Romey

KEY NEWCOMERS: Connor French, Jimmy Ebling, Brady Stein

TEE-TO-GREEN: Haidle was a first team all-WBL performer last year and leads the Bulldogs again. Elida has its top three golfers back for the third straight year and the No. 4 man for the second, so experience isn’t an issue. Those top four golfers all averaged between 42-46 last year.

Fort Jennings

COACH: Todd Hoehn

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 13, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): n/a

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Cody Warnecke, Zach Schuerman, Kurt Warnecke, Nate German

KEY NEWCOMERS: Josh Wittler

TEE-TO-GREEN: Experience could be a key for the Musketeers are the top three golfers all return.

Kalida

COACH: Ken Schnipke

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 15, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 7-4 (second in PCL)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Eric Kahle, Neil Recker, Cody Mathew, Austin Horstman, Jarrod Stober

KEY NEWCOMERS: Zack Erhart, Brady Mathew, Noah Verhoff, Adam Langhals

TEE-TO-GREEN: The WIldcats were within four strokes of making a state appearance last year, and with five of the top six golfers back they shouldn’t be much farther away this year.

Leipsic

COACH: Kevin Brandt

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 3, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 10-9 (3-1 PCL, 1-4 BVC)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Troy Niese, Jason Niese

KEY NEWCOMERS: Logan Selhorst, Neil Haselman, John Ellerbrock, Zack Hoyt, Alex Ellerbrock

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Vikings are solid at the 1 and 2 spots; the key will be gaining experience in the other three positions Jason Niese had a 45.7 stroke average last year and Troy Niese had a 46.2 average.

Lima Central Catholic

COACH: Brock Howe

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 1, 18-0 (43-12 overall)

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 18-0 (first NWC)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Josh Klaus, Zach Jamal, Austin Goodridge, Evan Wilker, Timmy Levers

KEY NEWCOMERS: John Kidd, Nick Watkins

TEE-TO-GREEN: The goal with the Thunderbirds is the state tournament, which they’ve made in four straight seasons. WIth first time all-NWC pick Klaus stepping into the No. 1 role, the Birds have some changes but should be in the mix in October.

Miller City

COACH: Dustin Pester

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 5, 12-66

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 4-16 (fifth in Putnam County League)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Derek Kaufman, Hayden Schroeder, Elizabeth Schimmoeller, Jared Fuka, Austin Lammers

KEY NEWCOMERS: Cody Sheets, Corey Deepe, Devin Hoellrich, Damon Lammers

TEE-TO-GREEN: Pester feels if the Wildcats could gain some consistency from the top four golfers, they could have a successful season.

Minster

COACH: Dave Borchers

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 2, 105-17

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 105-17 (won Midwest Athletic Conference, fifth in district tournament)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Austin Fischer, Freddy Purdy

KEY NEWCOMERS: Matt Wuebker, Josh Spieles, Josh Tumbusch, John Burke, Austin Brackman, Xavier Francis

TEE-TO-GREEN: There are four varsity spots up for grabs with the powerful Wildcats program, and it should be a battle. Wuebker, Tumbusch, Burke and Spieles all played on the junior varsity squad last year with averages within two strokes. Francis and Brackman are talented freshmen who could challenge for varsity time. Remember — Minster is just one year removed from a state title. They’re not far away.

New Bremen

COACH: Douglas McNaughton

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 3, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 8-1 MAC

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Darin Bergman

KEY NEWCOMERS: Tyler Nosek, Jacob Kosch, Ethan Elshoff, Alex Feltz, Alex Britton

TEE-TO-GREEN: Gone are five seniors from last year, but rebuilding efforts will center around Bergman, a junior, and Britton, a freshman. Bergman shot a 71 in last year’s Auglaize County Tournament, and Britton won twice on the LJGA this summer.

New Knoxville

COACH: Terry Halko

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 2, 3-11

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 3-11 (ninth in MAC)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Tyler Shreve, Justin Slaven, Troy Hurst

KEY NEWCOMERS: Brandon Steinke, Ryan Schott

TEE-TO-GREEN: With three letterwinners back, including last year’s top two, the Rangers look to be in contention in many tournaments and matches.

Ottoville

COACH: Jim Brown

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 9, 109-35

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 18-1 (PCL champions)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Kyle Karhoff, Travis Maag, Zach Weber, Derek Schimmoeller, Craig Odenweller, Luke Schimmoeller

KEY NEWCOMERS: n/a

TEE-TO-GREEN: Everyone’s back from a district-qualifying Big Green squad, so watch out. Brown wants more consistency from is 4, 5, and 6 golfers, but what coach doesn’t? This could be a big year for Ottoville.

Parkway

COACH: Mike Schumm

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 5, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): Fourth place in MAC

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Jordan Bollenbacher, Brian Schatzer

KEY NEWCOMERS: Austen Stukey, Tommy McDonough, Kameron Roehm, Jordan Stephenson, Jeremy Tribolet, Jeremy Miller

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Panthers are led by two talented sophomores in Bollenbacher and Schatzer, who each has successful summers. Four spots are available and Schumm hopes the competition makes the team stronger.

Perry

COACH: Matt Tabler

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 11 (three at Perry)

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 8-3 Northwest Central Conference

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Brey Buetner, Ben Sanders, Seth Epps

KEY NEWCOMERS: Dalton Bunch

TEE-TO-GREEN: Buetner leads the three returning letterwinners. He had an even 40.0 nine-hole stroke average last year.

Shawnee

COACH: Aaron Patterson

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: First season

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 14-4 (won WBL)

OHSAA DIVISION: II

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Kyle Miller

KEY NEWCOMERS: Grant Flanigan, Tyler Rambin

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Indians are in a definite rebuilding phase, with only Miller back with any experience, and he was the seventh man on the WBL championship team. No one really knows where the Indians will be in two months.

Spencerville

COACH: Mike Harmon

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 7, 86-59

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 21-6 (14-4 NWC, third place)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Rick Brunswick, Evan Crites, James Schaad

KEY NEWCOMERS: Kasey Lee, Cole Wilson, Caleb Yahl, Dane Gelivera, Chance Campbell, Derik German

TEE-TO-GREEN: Crites is the man on the Bearcats, starting his third season on the varsity five. The junior was a second team all-NWC pick last year with a 40.3 nine-hole average. They have to absorb the graduation of Trevor Crites, Evan’s older brother and the NWC player of the year.

Temple Christian

COACH: Jon Carver

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: First season

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): n/a (first year for program)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: n/a

KEY NEWCOMERS: Jared Mitchell, Justin Kroehler, Cole Beals, Isaiah Roebuck, Isreal Whitman

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Pioneers are back after a five-year hiatus. The goal is to get lots of experience and build for the future.

Upper Scioto Valley

COACH: Evan Jackson

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: First season

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): n/a

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Chris Netzer, Nick Sarver, Woody Prater

KEY NEWCOMERS: Alex Parker, Travis Compton, Triston Bruce

TEE-TO-GREEN: There are only six players on the USV roster, so Parker and Netzer are needed to take senior-leadership roles.

Van Wert

COACH: Jeff Hood

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 3, 18-7

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 11-2 (tied for third in WBL)

OHSAA DIVISION: II

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Matt Cucciarre, Vince Moreland, Jacob Brake, Tyler Turnwald

KEY NEWCOMERS: Adam Jurczyk, Justin Price, Brandon Hernandez

TEE-TO-GREEN: Hood will be disappointed if the Cougars aren’t in contention for the WBL title and a deep tournament run, and most people will be surprised if they don’t as well. Many of the golfers, including incoming freshman Hernandez, were regulars on the LJGA, and performed well.

Versailles

COACH: Pete DiSalvo

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 32, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 12-2 (third in MAC)

OHSAA DIVISION: II

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Trevor Phlipot, Josh Barlage, Jake Ahrens, Mitchell Stover, Brandon Groff

KEY NEWCOMERS: Tyler Drees, Ryan Knapke

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Tigers have 11 of 13 players back from last year, so DiSalvo is predicting a top-3 finish at the sectional and a spot in the district tournament. However, he’d like to see his players eliminate some of their inconsistencies.

Waynesfield-Goshen

COACH: Bryan Hirn

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: First at school

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 67-17 (10-0 NWCC)

OHSAA DIVISION: III

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: None

KEY NEWCOMERS: Garrett Hauenstein, Justus Ball, Eric Shaner, Ryan Agnew

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Tigers lost everything from last year’s successful season, so it might be a rebuilding year. First-year coach Hirn isn’t ready to throw in the towel, though, thinking they could make some noise in the conference.

GIRLS GOLFLima Central Catholic

COACH: Kristen Windau

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 2, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): Second in NWOGGL

OHSAA DIVISION: II

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Ali Whitney, Celeste Shanahan, Jordin Moots, Elise Weichart, Shelby Warner, Sarah Scheiwiller, Jenna Moots

KEY NEWCOMERS: Sydney Hooks, Maddi Stallkamp, Becca Patterson, Morgan Ruen, Megan Scheiwiller

TEE-TO-GREEN: Warner is one of the area’s best girls golfers, winning five times on the LJGA this summer. There is experienced depth on the roster, so hopes are for a return to glory for LCC girls golf.

Lincolnview

COACH: Rob Welch

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 3, n/a

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 28-21

OHSAA DIVISION: II

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Kaitlyn Brant, Amanda Kocab, Macey Ashbaugh, Holly Diller, Katie Dye

KEY NEWCOMERS: none

TEE-TO-GREEN: Brant has put in plenty of work this summer to improve; last year as the Lancers’ No. 1, she averaged 44 on nine holes. With three other letterwinners back and Dye returning from a torn ACL, the Lancers could put up some competitive scores.

New Bremen

COACH: Mike Holdren

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 2, 0-15

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 0-15 (seventh in MAC)

OHSAA DIVISION: II

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Amy Knapke, Shannon Roediger, Mackenzie Howell, Rachel Parker

KEY NEWCOMERS: Erika Smith, Sydney Holdren, Sydia Flynn

TEE-TO-GREEN: It can only go up from last year, and with some experience back things seem like they will head in the right direction. As a freshman, Holdren could step in and contribute right away.

Shawnee

COACH: Nancy Clum

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 3, 33-9

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 14-2

OHSAA DIVISION: I

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Emily Crow, Lesli Stolly, Rebekah Rader, Morgan Van Meter, Raven Venegas

KEY NEWCOMERS: Haleigh Jordan, Jennifer Mitchell

TEE-TO-GREEN: Replacing Sheridan Balyeat will be a tall order, but with players like Crow, Stolly and Van Meter back, the Indians are a force. The jump to Division I is a big leap, though.

St. Henry

COACH: John Dorner

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 6, 66-27

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 9-6 (4-3 MAC)

OHSAA DIVISION: II

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Morgan Breitigam, Megan Brockman, Haley Hogenkamp, Nora Dorner, Emily Albers, Kelly Siefring

KEY NEWCOMERS: Taylor Koesters, Jessie Schneider, Hanna Tumbusch, Hannah Clune, Shannon Huelskamp

TEE-TO-GREEN: There are six letterwinners back and five starters from the junior varsity team, but none of them had a stroke average lower than 53.3 last year.

Wapakoneta

COACH: Dawn West

SEASON, RECORD AT SCHOOL: 6, 53-37

LAST YEAR’S RECORD (Overall, League): 14-5

OHSAA DIVISION: I

RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Courtney Knippen, Hannah Smith, Shelby Kohler

KEY NEWCOMERS: Zoe Rayburn, Bryly Beaman

TEE-TO-GREEN: The Redskins have a solid nucleus back from last year, and West commented on Rayburn’s improvement — she’s dropped 20 shots since last season — as points of success.
