Throughout his high school career at Elida, Reggie McAdams was the Ďgo-toí guy on the basketball court. Now, a freshman at the University of Akron, McAdams is finding himself contributing as a role player on the menís basketball team.



McAdams has seen action in 12 of the 13 games that Akron has played this season. The 6-foot-7 wing player is making an impact, averaging 4.4 points, 1.2 rebounds and 13 minutes per game.



Akron, 9-4 overall, will kick-off the Mid-American Conference schedule Wednesday when it entertains Western Michigan. The Zips are currently on a five-game winning streak.



McAdamsí senior season at Elida was one to remember. He was named the Division II Co-Player of the Year. McAdams helped lead the Bulldogs to its first-ever state-final appearance when it lost to perennial-power Dayton Dunbar. Elida went 24-4 his senior season.



McAdams averaged 22 points, nine rebounds, 4.2 assists, 3.1 blocked shots and 2.2 steals per game in his final season. He finished his prep career at Elida as the all-time leader in points (1,721), blocked shots, most games played and starts.



Schlegel shining at YSU



Heidi Schlegel (Wapakoneta), a redshirt sophomore at Youngstown State University, is among the leaders on the womenís basketball team this season. The 6-foot Schlegel is averaging 10.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 26 minutes per game at a forward position. She has seen action in nine of YSUís 13 games this season.



Last year as a redshirt freshman, Schlegel played in 27 games, 17 in which she started. Schlegel averaged 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds.



Her first season at Youngstown was cut short when she suffered a season-ending foot injury, early into the campaign.



YSU is 10-3 this season.



Area hoopsters leading ONU women



This has been a stellar season for the Ohio Northern University womenís basketball team. The Polar Bears are 12-1 overall and 6-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. They are currently ranked 12th in the nation in Division III.



Cenzie Yoder (Jr., Celina) is leading the list of area players, averaging 15.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Joanna Snyder (Sr., Fort Recovery) is averaging 12.9 points and 5.4 boards.



Morgan Dumbaugh (Sr., Ada) is averaging 11.6 points and 3.6 rebounds. Taylor Hermiller (Jr., Pandora-Gilboa) is contributing 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds. Becca Saine (Soph., Delphos St. Johnís) is scoring 1.3 points per contest.



Leading ONU men



Jared Horstman (Jr., Fort Jennings) is leading the trio of locals who are playing on the Ohio Northern University menís basketball team this season.



Horstman is averaging 10.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.



Taylor Kuhlman (Sr., Ottawa-Glandorf) is scoring 7.8 points and pulling down 4.8 boards. Adam Bair (Soph., Columbus Grove) is averaging 4.5 points, coming off the bench.



ONU is 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.



Area men at Bluffton



This yearís Bluffton University menís basketball team has several area athletes making significant contributions.



Josh Johnson (Jr., Ottawa-Glandorf) is leading the list of locals, averaging 7.8 points per game. Josh Fisher (Sr., Parkway) is averaging 6.6 points per contest. Tyler Neal (Sr., Bluffton) is scoring 5.2 points and dishing out 2.2 assists.



Billy Taflinger (Fr., Lima Central Catholic), Dillon Long (Jr., Parkway), Matt Gerdeman (Sr., Delphos Jefferson), Zach Rumbaugh (Soph., Lima Senior), Ryan Ebbeskotte (Soph., Delphos Jefferson), Nathan Bihn (Soph., Celina) and Brock Homier (Soph., Continental) have all seen action this season.



The Beavers are 4-9 overall and 0-6 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.



Coburn at Bluffton



Mikayla Coburn (Soph., Upper Scioto Valley) has seen action in all of the Bluffton University womenís basketball games this season. The 5-10 forward is averaging 3.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.



Bluffton is 6-7 and 1-5 in the HCAC.



Area players leading Lady Racers



Kylie Kahlig (Frosh., Fort Recovery) has seen action in every game this season for the University of Northwestern Ohio womenís basketball team. Kahlig is averaging 6.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Jess Johns (Fr., Bath) is averaging 5.2 points and 4.1 boards.



Sammi Dervisevic (Soph., Shawnee) is averaging 5.9 points and 4.1 caroms. Becca Harshman (Frosh., Parkway) is averaging 2.9 points and 2.3 boards.



The Racers are 5-12.



Scott, Cross contributing for UNOH



Former Defiance High School player point guard Josh Scott has started all 16 games this season for the University of Northwestern Ohio menís basketball team.



Scott, a freshman, is averaging 6.3 points, 3.5 assists and 3.1 rebounds.



Freshman Jason Pottkotter (Fort Recovery) has seen limited action in 14 games. The Racers are 9-7.



Freshman Aaron Cross (Ada, Wheeling Jesuit University) has seen action in 10 games this season. He is averaging 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
