SIDNEY — The Lima American Legion Post 96 baseball team is heading to Lancaster.
Facing a winner-take-all situation Sunday at Piqua, Post 96 exploded for six runs in the first two innings and crushed Sidney 13-3 in the finals of the district tournament. Lima advances to the state tournament, next week in Lancaster.
“It’s been great to see these kids fulfill all of their expectations,” Lima manager Rick Koch said. “It’s great to be a part of this organization.”
Keaton Sullivan picked up the win, allowing three hits and three runs in seven innings while striking out six. After a great performance at the plate on Saturday, Sullivan was named the tournament’s MVP.
Mike Snider was the top hitter for Lima (33-7) on Sunday, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Cory Rieman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Mackenzie Hampshire was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Lima out-hit Sidney 11-3 on Sunday.
The district’s season MVP went to John Simindinger. He was 5-0 as a pitcher and hit over .400.
Post 96 picked up one more game before the state tournament, facing fellow state-qualifier Piqua on Thursday.
