SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP ‚?? Sami Bullock said she was tired, and the Shawnee junior had every reason to be after pitching 14 innings in a doubleheader against Indian Lake, but you wouldn‚??t know it by watching her set down nine of the final 10 Lakers in a row. The Indians swept Indian Lake 4-2 and 9-1 on Saturday.

‚??I‚??m drained. It got a lot hotter,‚?Ě Bullock said. ‚??My defense and my offense helped me a lot today. I couldn‚??t be happier with my defense and offense, it helped tremendously. It‚??s going to be hard to beat a team with a defense and an offense like mine.‚?Ě

The idea heading into the second game was to start Bullock and see how long she went. Shawnee coach Lou Seddelmeyer didn‚??t see any reason to pull her in favor of another arm. In fact, Seddelmeyer said she pitches two or three games a day during the summer.

From her position, catcher Brittany Lauck didn‚??t see any dip in Bullock‚??s performance.

‚??She can keep her strength going for two games,‚?Ě Lauck said.

In the first game, Bullock allowed four hits and three walks while striking out seven. In the second game, she held Indian Lake (4-3) to five hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts. Take away the Lakers‚?? fourth inning in the second game, when they scored a run on three hits, and Bullock‚??s already solid day becomes dominating.

To be fair, Bullock relied on an air-tight defense backing her up. In running out to an 8-0 record, the Indians have committed just two errors total after a spotless performance Saturday. Third baseman Morgan Truxal had seven putouts in the two games, and Lauck was heads-up by nailing four base runners who strayed too far.

‚??I try to do what I can for the team, and whatever works, works and hopefully it is enough,‚?Ě Truxal said. ‚??We all try to do what we can to help our teammates out. We work as a team and we don‚??t want to have all the pressure on one person, so we all come together.‚?Ě

It took the Indians‚?? offense a game to wake up. They left eight runners stranded in the first game, six in scoring position. The blazing speed of Shelby Lucas and Lauck made up for it ‚?? Lucas stole two bases and Lauck another. Lucas‚?? speed freaked out the Lakers when she took a big lead off second base in the fourth, the pitcher‚??s pickoff went in the dirt in front of third base and Lucas raced around to score.

Lucas scored three runs in the two games.

‚??We‚??ve got great speed,‚?Ě Seddelmeyer said. ‚??Right on down the line, we‚??ve got great speed, and that helps. It puts a lot of pressure on (the opponent).‚?Ě

The Indians bashed the ball in the second game with nine hits. Truxal had a solo home run in the third; she ended the day with two doubles, the homer, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Shawnee had four doubles and two home runs in the two games.

‚??Up and down our lineup, all our kids can hit,‚?Ě Seddelmeyer said. ‚??We had chances in the first game, runners at third, runners at second, bases loaded, and we couldn‚??t get that two-out hit. We‚??ve been getting that all year. Second game, we got the two-out hit; it makes a world of difference.‚?Ě

Lauck had three hits in seven at-bats and four RBIs, including a bases-loaded double in the second inning of the second game that plated all three runners. Her favorite was a much-desired home run, a solo shot to right field in the sixth inning of game two.

‚??It feels good,‚?Ě Lauck said of the homer. ‚??I wish it would have been in a moment when we needed it, but I‚??ll take it. Now I know I can do it.‚?Ě

The Indians‚?? 8-0 record is a school best for best start. However, with the rugged Western Buckeye League schedule kicking off this week, Seddelmeyer knows there‚??s no time to enjoy yet another broken record for this group.

‚??We felt we were going to be pretty good this year, we had potential,‚?Ě Seddelmeyer said. ‚??A lot of teams have potential and don‚??t go anywhere. They‚??re doing the little things. ... It‚??s a real tribute to these girls.‚?Ě
