COLDWATER - In Saturday's opening game of the State ACME Tournament against Coldwater, Bath pitcher Cameron Garver was able to work his way out of several jams as the Wildcats slipped away with a 2-0 win.
However, in Wednesday's rematch, Garver was not as successful as the Cavaliers erupted for five runs in the fifth inning en route to a convincing 10-0 victory in six innings.
Coldwater forced Garver out of the game in the fifth as they pounded four hits. For the game, Coldwater had 11 hits, compared to Bath's three.
With the loss, Bath (13-9) bows out of the double-elimination tournament. Coldwater (22-4) moves one step closer to Saturday's final. The Cavs will take on Patrick Henry at 7 p.m. Friday.
Bath coach Ryan Reindel said Coldwater pitcher Bill Geeslin was the key to the Cavaliers' win.
"Their pitcher threw extremely well tonight," Reindel said. "He really stayed on top of the pitches. Give Coldwater credit it's a quality program."
Geeslin worked all six innings to record the win. He struck out six, walked one and hit one batter.
Garver worked 5 1/3 innings for Bath. He gave up seven runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking three.
Coldwater coach Romie Schwieterman said his team finally got the offensive explosion that he has been expecting out of his team this summer.
"Hitting is contagious ... and not hitting can be contagious," Schwieterman said. "The last two games we've started to hit the baseball."
