ADA — Ohio Northern’s Will Freed threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns, but had what would have been his final TD called back due to a penalty Saturday as the Polar Bears fell 35-28 to Marietta at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears and Pioneer are each 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Freed, who completed 17-of-32 passes had his 16-yard TD strike to Rodney Holmes with 37 seconds left in the game called back on a hands to the face penalty.

Christiaan Williams (Anna) ran 17 times for 66 yards and caught three passes for 59 yards for 125 yards of total offense for ONU.

Zach Schmerge (Wapakoneta) had a season-high 19 tackles also for the Polar Bears.

Bluffton University 28

BLUFFTON — The host Beavers (2-6, 2-4 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) were unable to put any more points on the board after pulling within three with 9:45 remaining in the game.

Darian Greeley ran 28 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns and Plummie Gardner (Perry) had a TD run for Bluffton. Brandon Koch completed 17 of 44 pass attempts for 197 yards and threw a TD pass to Micah Roberson (Ada), who finished with four catches for 63 yards. Teammate Keyon Camden also had four catches that resulted in 34 receiving yards.

Akron 21, Buffalo 20

AKRON — Thomas Woodson was 21-of-29 passing for 291 yards and three touchdowns for Akron (5-4, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) against Buffalo (3-6, 1-4).

Rose Hulman is now 7-2 (6-1 HCAC).

Dayton 27, Butler 22

DAYTON — Alex Jeske hit Adam Trautman for the game-winning touchdown to cap a comeback by Dayton (4-5, 3-3) against Butler (5-4, 3-3).

Youngstown State 0

YOUNGSTOWN — James Robinson ran for 117 yards and a touchdown, Markel Smith had a career-high 124 yards and another score as Illinois State (6-2, 4-1 Missouri Valley Conference) dominated Youngstown State (3-5, 1-4).
