Roundup: Cory-Rawson edges Bluffton in girls soccer

RAWSON — Aylissa Shoemaker and Hayley Waltz each scored goals as Cory-Rawson defeated Bluffton 2-1 in girls soccer Wednesday night.

Kayla White scored Bluffton’s goal.

Start time changed

BLUFFTON — The start time for Saturday’s Division III girls soccer match between Ottawa-Glandorf and host Bluffton has been changed to 7 p.m. at Steinmetz Field.

Division II district

BOWLING GREEN — No area singles player or doubles team advanced to the semifinals at Bowling Green State University.

Lima Central Catholic’s Olivia Kesner defeated Ottawa Hills’ Jenny Hsu 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round before falling 6-1, 6-1 to Lexington’s Syliva Goldsmith in the quarterfinals. St. Marys’ Clare Caywood defeated Ottawa Hills’ Priya Bhatt 6-4, 6-2 and then lost to Galion’s Kaylyn Gimble 6-1, 6-3.

Kenton’s Mykaela Shriber lost 6-2, 6-0 to Napoleon’s Aliza Lankenau and Bath’s Charis Barnes lost 6-0, 6-1 to Toledo Central Catholic’s Ava McQuillin in opening round matches.

The Bath doubles team of Ruby and Ester Bolon defeated Bucyrus’ Alivia Lewis and Caleigh Rister 6-0, 6-0 before falling 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-1 to Rachel Gorman and Ellie Hire of Toledo Central Catholic in the quarterfinals.

St. Marys’ Grace Dicke and Bailey Lininger fell 6-3, 7-5 to Willard’s Jolynn Brubaker and Kennedy Daub and LCC’s Maddie Moore and Madie Brinkman were defeated 6-4, 6-4 by Willard’s Emma Moll and Addison Paxton in opening round matches.

Those reaching the semifinals already have qualified for the state championships. The Division I district is scheduled to begin today at the same venue.

Men’s soccer

Ohio Northern 4, Heidelberg 0

ADA — J.J. Fortner scored two first half goals to help lift Ohio Northern to a victory against No. 8-ranked Heidelberg at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 9-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and handed Heidelberg its first loss of the season to drop the Student Princes to 9-1-1, 2-1-1.

Mac Tompkins and Joseph Schulte each tallied one goal. Dylan Plank earned his eighth victory of the season after recording saves on all four of the Student Princes shots on goal.

UNOH 3, Indiana Tech 1

LIMA — Jose Pizarro scored two goal and Dumisani Manyange tallied one for the Racers (7-4-1, 4-2 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference)

Mount St. Joseph 2, Bluffton 0

BLUFFTON — Bluffton surrendered two second half goals. The Beavers dipped to 1-11 and 1-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, while MSJ improved to 4-7-3 on the season and 1-2-1 in the HCAC.

Women’s soccer

Mount St. Joseph 4, Bluffton 0

CINCINNATI — The Beavers fell to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in HCAC while Mt. St. Joe improved to 12-2 overall and 3-1 in the HCAC.

UNOH 6, Indiana Tech 1

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Camilla Andersen, Evdokia Popadinova and Rikke Sevecke each had two goals and Sevecke also had two assists for the Racers.

Volleyball

Madonna 3, UNOH 1

LIVONIA, Mich. — The Racers (13-12, 2-8 WHAC) fell 25-22, 16-25, 25-17, 25-21. Stephanie Hanewold had 21 kills, Taina Soranzo had 18 digs and Kayleigh Hulst had 43 assists for UNOH.
