SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee running back Grant Wheeler has been selected to play in the Blue-Gray All-American Bowl game at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Wheeler was among more than 6,700 players to try out for 90 available positions.
He will play for the East squad made of players from 22 states while the West squad will have participants from 17 states.
Wheeler, who is entering his senior season, finished ninth last season in the Western Buckeye League in all-purpose yards with 1,000 and eighth in kickoff returns with 247 yards, averaging 19 yards per return.

Rager wins playoff
OTTAWA — Joshah Rager birdied the first hole of a sudden-death playoff against Ethan Harmon after each shot 74 Tuesday in the boys 16-18 division of the Lima Junior Golf Association — McDonald’s Junior Series’ Union Bank Open held at the par-71 Pike Run Golf Club.
Erin Mulcahy defeated Meghan Mulcahy in a playoff for the girls 16-18 title after each shot 83. Ethan Ricketts was the boys 14-15 champ followed by Solomon Smith (89).
Jack Gerker finished atop the boys 12-13 leaderboard with a 42 on the par-35 back nine. Justin Altenbach was second with a 43. Haylee Wurm was the girls 15 and younger champ with a 44. Marissa Miller was runner-up with a 53.
SPRINGFIELD — Matthew Akers of Lima and John Burke of Minster each shot opening round 81s at the par-70 Springfield Country Club.
Jeffrey Scohy, Austin Sipe, Brennen Walsh and Camden Soloman each shot 67 to share the low round of the day.
