St. Henry’s Siefring throws baseball no-hitter

NEW KNOXVILLE — St. Henry’s Matt Siefring allowed no hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings as the visiting Redskins defeated New Knoxville 10-0 in a Midwest Athletic Conference baseball game Thursday.

Parker Link, Conner Bruggeman and Nate Lefeld each had two hits for St. Henry.

Temple Christian 8,

Upper Scioto Valley 2

MCGUFFEY — Brody Bowman and Micah Craig each had two hits and an RBI and Ty Callahan had a hit and two RBI for Temple Christian. JJ Overs had three hits and Jason Moots doubles and singles for USV.

LCC 11, Lima Senior 0

LIMA — Anthony Venturella allowed two hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings for Lima Central Catholic. He also doubled and had three RBI. Regan Altenbach had three hits and three RBI also for the Thunderbirds. Caleb Dugan and D’Niyae Morris each had a hit for Lima Senior.

Bluffton 14,

Columbus Grove 1

BLUFFTON — Matt Bowden had two hits and three RBI, Zane Myers had a hit and two RBI and Tyler McLaughlin doubled and knocked in two runs for the host Pirates.

Softball

Shawnee 8, LCC 5

LIMA — Molly Bollinger had four hits, including two doubles, and Laken George, Aurora Knight and Kayla Sietz each doubled for Shawnee. Sophia Santaguida and Jaclyn Digilo had two hits each for LCC.

Spencerville 3,

Delphos Jefferson 2

SPENCERVILLE — Winning pitcher Julie Mulholland allowed one hit and two runs while striking out 16 in a nine-inning outing. Jefferson’s Kiya Wollenhaupt allowed one earned run in nine innings of work.

Elida 14, Lima Senior 0

LIMA — Laruen Alexander homered, had a single and four RBI, Lauren Kesler had four hits, Kori Baker had two singles and two RBI and Katelynn Sumption had two doubles and two RBI for the visiting Bulldogs.

LIMA — Singles players Ben Brinkman, Steven Taflinger and Ben Knapke all won for LCC at Collett Street Courts.

Celina 3, Bluffton 2

BLUFFTON — Singles player Heath Laux and the doubles teams of Bryce Langenkamp and Kyle Lochtefeld and Sohaib Saleem and Garret Forlow won for Celina.

Singles players Justin Haggard and Trevor Bunch won for Bluffton.

Boys basketball

New Ottoville coach

OTTOVILLE — Keith Utendorf was hired as the new Ottoville head basketball coach after the Ottoville Board of Education approved the measure Wednesday.

Utendorf takes over for Todd Turnwald who’s contract was not renewed for the upcoming season. Turnwald, who finished his sixth season as the Ottoville head coach, was 9-12 last year. In his stint as the Big Green, Turnwald was 45-91.

Untendorf, who posted an 8-15 mark last year, spent four seasons as the Fort Jennings head coach and posted a 24-70 overall mark.

Elida physicals

Free sports physicals will be offered at OIO again this year for all Elida student athletes going into grades 7-12. The physicals will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 1 and May 8 at OIO. Stop by the Middle School Office or Athletic Office to get paperwork. Any student needing transportation to OIO needs to sign up in the office on the bus transportation sheet by Friday, April 28. There will be a bus that runs each night at 4:50 p.m. and those wanting a ride need to be at the entrance to the high school athletic office by 4:45 p.m. Physicals are a requirement to start conditioning and practices.
