Wapak boys, girls win district crowns

COLUMBUS — The St Marys boys captured state bowling gold Saturday afternoon at Wayne Webb Columbus Bowl.

St Marys qualified fourth 190 pins behind top-seeded Coldwater entering the team head-to-head competition. The Roughriders topped Versailles (3-1) in the best-of-five baker matches while Coldwater fell to the eighth seeded Woodridge.

St. Marys then went on to defeat Woodridge (3-0) and then won the title with a 209-203, 213-130 and 268-170 victory against Hillsboro.

Trey James had a 299 game for Coldwater while St. Henry’s Trey Buehler rolled a 300. James finished with a 682 series, placing him third overall, earning him a spot on the All-Ohio first team. Buehler landed on the second team with a 637 total, good for eighth place.

Austin Cook led St. Marys with a 618 series (17th overall) with Cam Dingledine (587) coming in 31st and Kelsey Shannon (585) and Logan Dircksen (585) finishing in a tie for 35th also for the Roughriders.

D-I district

LIMA — The Wapakoneta boys and girls claimed team titles at 20th Century Lanes to earn state berths.

Celina (4,038) finished second behind the Redskins (4,094) in the boys competition. Wapak’s Tyler Miller had the high series (663) with teammate Brandon Kennard (650) finishing second.

In the girls event, Shawnee (3,543) was second to Wapak (3,577) with Celina (3,258) finishing fourth.

Dayle Aldrich paced Shawnee on this day with a 592, finishing as runner-up to Cailyn Overhulse of Bowling Green who rolled a 605.

They were joined on the first team all district by Dorian Regadanz of Celina (578) and Britni and Carlee Hosterman of Wapak who rolled 575 and 545 respectively. The Redskins’ Josee Kaeck (538) and Kate Manger (529) were second team honorees along with Allie Meeker (542) of Shawnee and Morgan Twining (541) of Lima Senior High.
