KALIDA — The Kalida school board will decide if the winningest coach in Ohio’s basketball history will continue to coach there during a special meeting Friday.

The school board scheduled a meeting for 5 p.m. Friday in the Kalida board room in the administrative building. The agenda includes an executive session, followed by a motion to approve giving Richard Kortokrax the boys varsity head basketball coach position for the 2016-17 school year.

Kortokrax recently completed his 56th year as a basketball coach, including 41 years at Kalida. He has a 890-371 career record and a 665-271 record at Kalida. He leads second-place Joe Petrocelli, of Archbishop Alter, who retired at the end of last season.

His 1980-81 team won the Class A state championship. His team went 13-10 last year and won the league championship, and Putnam County League coaches selected him as coach of the year last season. The Wildcats fell to Delphos St. John’s in the sectional semifinal.

He joined the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999. The Ohio High School Athletic Association elected him to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
