Battling pain

1 days 13 hours ago | | | Email

BATH TOWNSHIP – Bath’s Adam Vieira woke up one morning last summer with a stiff neck. For a golfer, a creaky neck can be more aggravating than trying to hit into a gusting 40 mph wind. But Vieira powered through his discomfort last year, including helping Bath to an eighth-place finish at the Division II boys golf state tournament.Vieira shot 91 the first day of the state, but rebounded with an 83 for a two-day 174 at the difficult North Star Golf Club in Sunbury. Then, late last winter Vieira’s neck was giving him severe problems. It quickly accelerated from a stiff neck to a stabbing pain.

Mark Hendrickson: The NLRB’s contribution to Obama’s anti-business crusade

Having written earlier this summer about the whack-a-mole regulatory state running wild under the presidency of Barack Obama, the biggest question in my mind was which of the myriad federal regulatory agencies would be the next to throw a monkey wrench into the economy. It was a foregone conclusion that the Environmental Protection Agency would be one of those agencies, and they haven’t disappointed, but the other most egregious offender is the National Labor Relations Board.

Los Angeles Times: In a world full of persecution, how many people can the US protect?

SEPT. 15, 2014 — There is no question that Aminta Cifuentes’ marriage was not just bad but a threat to her life. Her husband beat her regularly. He burned her breast with caustic paint thinner. He raped her. When police were called, the officers refused to intervene; then, he threatened to kill her if she called them again. After Cifuentes ran away with her two children, the husband tracked her down and the violence resumed.
