1. What are the subscription choices?
Customers that subscribe to our newspaper 7-days a week are provided with access to the web site as part of their subscription. 2. How secure is this process?
Will anyone be able to steal my contact or payment information? The subscription process, and all the personal information you submit through our online subscription forms, is carefully guarded and protected. Our internal payment and authentication system used to facilitate the subscription transactions is password protected, and all information is encrypted in transmission. We take extraordinary steps to ensure that our web site is protected from hacking or other illegal activity. And, we maintain the highest security standards to ensure that your subscription account is well-protected. We will use all the measures at our disposal to protect our product and our customers.
3. Why are you implementing this new payment structure for your newspaper and web site?
This new initiative is intended to help us discover what our readers truly value. By bundling the value of our newspapers together with our web sites, we will be able to maximize the value of our products. We believe that our loyal customers will recognize the value of the products and services we offer - both in print and online – and will be willing to pay a fair price for it.
4. Why are you charging a subscription fee for full access to newspaper stories?
As a news publishing business, it costs money, resources and effort to produce the stories for the online edition. Web advertising alone does not cover the costs of the hosting, and publishing an award-winning news and information web site, and it seems unfair to charge newsprint readers for this information and yet, offer it free to a global audience outside our local market. An online-only membership is available, or membership is free with a 7-day subscription to newspaper.
5. Why do you require payment to access all areas and all content of the site?
As a 7-day newspaper subscriber, you receive instant access to all areas of our site. Plus you gain access to our e-edition of the paper (Olive), and you can take advantage of our many news subscription services like newsletters and email alerts, as well as all our interactive features and new products. And, even without a 7-day newspaper subscription, you still have the option of subscribing to our web site. You can access all our photos, videos, events calendars, blogs and full articles of all our content by choosing to subscribe to the web site by the day or month - or through an annual subscription.
6. Why are some stories and photos only available to subscribers?
All subscriber-only articles, photos and stories, are thoroughly researched, edited and sometimes merged with other stories to create a better product for our readers. This award-winning news product requires manpower, resources, technology and extra cost. An online-only membership is available, or membership is free with a 7-day subscription to the newspaper.
7. Why are you the only media outlet charging for online content?
None of your competitors seem to be charging for online content? The Wall Street Journal has steadfastly stuck to online subscriptions, New York Times is charging for opinion pieces under its “TimesSelect” banner, and even smaller papers such as the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has a paid model - and there are dozens of other papers modeling those success stories.Our paid content initiative allows newspaper subscribers to have full access to the web site. And everyone else can access most other sections of our site without being expected to purchase a subscription. 12. Why are complete newspaper stories not available through the News, Sports and Features links in the menu bar?
Our web site provides brief versions of many newspaper articles and full stories from various wire services without a subscription. However, complete versions of newspaper articles are available only to 7-day newspaper subscribers or online subscribers. 13. Are you going to stop publishing the print edition?
No. We are committed to the communities we serve by focusing on local customers and advertisers, and doing what we do best - delivering quality news products every day. 14. When are the daily editions available?
Our web site is continually updated with the latest news from all of our resources. The ePaper is updated daily with content from the newspaper. Our target is to have all online ePaper editions available by 6 a.m., to coincide with our newsprint home delivery. The ePaper editions are made available online after the newsprint editions go to press.
15. I used to be able to email copies of stories to friends on topics in the newspaper - now you’re charging me for them?
No, you are not being charged to email stories from our web site to family or friends. But, we are asking you to subscribe to the newspaper or the web site to receive full access to stories on our web site.
