Letter: Media give fame to hooligans

Why is it members of the media always have to jump in at the first sign of a social problem and plaster it all over the world just so they can sell more advertising? They will break their necks to be the first news outlet to cover all the gory details of any riot, mass murder or other shocking occurrence no matter where it happens. They seem to be only interested in sensationalizing the incident, no matter who it may harm or injure.

Letter: We need to accept and welcome Muslims

Tom Riegle wants to know where every Muslim in this country stands (“Islamic intolerance is the real danger” Lima News, Aug. 4).While he doesn’t use the word, his request hearkens back to the McCarthyism of the 1950s, when the fear was for ”closet communists.” American Muslims have fought in our armies, beginning with the Continental Army and extending to the present day. Some 3,500 American Muslims have been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and, as o...

Letter: What is wrong with Lima and Allen County?

What is wrong with the people who run the city of Lima and Allen County?Lima builds these stupid one-way streets and then changes them. Letter: Spartan Stadium stokes school spirit

I wonder if others are as puzzled as I am over the furor with the Lima school board’s decision to name the renovated stadium after the school mascot. I taught for decades at Bath, and nothing seems more natural than to promote school spirit and pride. Why assign any other motivation to this move?Several residents have suggested this act will harm the relationship between the public and the parochial schools. There is talk that the name change might preclude the development of...
