Hundreds herd into Keystone for Allen County Junior Fair carcass show

1 days 8 hours ago | | | Email

LIMA — When it comes to the Allen County Junior Fair Carcass Show, it is not what is outside, but what is inside, literally, that counts.Hundreds of people lined up along the outer wall of Keystone Meats on Harding Highway on Wednesday to get an insider’s view into various cattle, pigs, chickens, rabbits, lambs and goats that were showcased at last week’s fair.“What happens here is that after the grand reserves of each species have been decided at the fair, the next placings all go into the carcass show,” according to Kelly Colbe, 4-H educator at the Ohio State University Extension. “It varies by species as to how many animals come in.”

Business as usual for Ada

ADA – A year ago, Bob Olwin took over an Ada football team that had gotten quite comfortable at scoring points, winning games and making the postseason.Nothing changed.Olwin’s Bulldogs went 9-4 overall and zipped all the way to the Division VI regional finals on the strength of a punishing defensive front and an offense that jelled as the season went on.Heading into the 2014 campaign, it seems to be business as usual for Ada.

Bishoff’s crystal ball gazes into 2014 season

When I began life as a sportswriter, I was told a lot of tips for taking stats, doing interviews, covering a game and on and on and on.Most of it stuck with me from a purely practical nature. But two pieces of advice struck a chord deep within my sportswriter’s soul and have always held a special place in my heart:• My first sports editor told me to watch the crowd.• My second sports editor told me to cover the game from the sidelines....
