KALIDA — Ottoville’s baseball team pounded out 12 hits and Luke Schimmoeller threw a two-hitter as the Big Green knocked off Kalida 15-0 in five innings in Putnam County League action Thursday night at Holy Name Ballpark in Kalida.

KETTERING — You had to excuse Curtis Geise for being tired after Delphos St. John’s victory over Jackson Center on Tuesday in the Division IV regional semifinals.

TIPP CITY – After cruising for the first 25 minutes and grabbing a 23-point lead, it looked like the Fort Loramie Redskins would cruise to an easy victory.

KALIDA — Ottawa-Glandorf and Archbold each easily advanced in the Division III girls basketball district semifinal at Kalida Thursday.

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee's Emily Murphy is only a junior, but the state swimming meet is already familiar territory.

The following is the list of Lima area state swimming and diving qualifiers for this weekend's meet at Canton's C.T. Branin Natatorium:

BOWLING GREEN — Sandusky Perkins dominated the Division II district swim meet Friday at the Samuel M. Cooper pool at the Student Recreation Center on the campus of Bowling Green State University.

BATH TOWNSHIP — For the fourth time in her high school swimming career, Bath senior Sydney Meffley has qualified for the district swim meet.

LIMA — More than 275 swimmers hit the Lima YMCA pool for the Division I and Division II Northwest District Lima sectional on Saturday.

DELPHOS — Expectations tend to be high for the Delphos St. John’s boys basketball team.

COLDWATER -- This is how Star Wars fans must feel. We have seen it before, we know the characters, but we are not sure of the outcome. Coldwater will face Kirtland Hornets in the Division V state football championship on Saturday at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon (3:07 p.m. kickoff)

DELPHOS — Beginning his 24th season as the Delphos St. John’s girls basketball coach, Dan J. Grothouse knows that every team and every season is different.

LIMA — “Play 60” has been one of the battle cries for the Coldwater football team this season. With their 38-0 dominating performance over Liberty-Benton in the Division V state semifinal at Lima Stadium, the Cavaliers seniors will get to play 60 high school football games throughout their career.

While many were enjoying turkey and watching football on television, Coldwater (13-0) and Liberty-Benton Eagles (12-1) were preparing for a football game.

DAYTON — Not all 12-0 teams are alike.

ASHLAND — It was not without controversy, but Bay Village Bay squeaked past Ottawa-Glandorf 2-0 in the Division II regional final boys soccer tournament at Ashland Community Stadium on an overcast cool afternoon.

When Emily Ruhe finished as runner-up in the district tennis tournament this past weekend at UNOH, she didn’t just break new ground for herself, she did it for the Bath athletic program also.

LIMA — Bath’s Emily Ruhe went a step beyond her season tennis goals on Saturday.

LIMA — On his final carry of the night, Bath quarterback Doug Sanders carried the ball into the end zone.

LIMA — It was a special night at Lima Stadium as a pair of legends became the sixth and seventh former players to have their football numbers retired.

COLDWATER — The only suspense of the night would be what song would the Coldwater band play as its finale. When the band hit thefield, the Cavaliers led 38-0.

BATH TOWNSHIP — For the second straight week, Bath gave up 42 points.

HARROD — The final meeting between Allen East and Bath is in the books and will be remembered for a long time.

LIMA — The Lima City Mixed Doubles tournament opened Thursday at the Collett Street Courts with plenty of smiles and fun matches.

Her degree is in Organizational Leadership, but the degree does not describe the experience Ashley Ruchty has had the past six months.

AKRON — As it left her bat, there was no doubt that senior Maddie Etzler’s final high school swing was a home run.

AKRON — They could have been in English class or Algebra or maybe Physics, but the Crestview softball team was not learning with their classmates back in Convoy on Thursday afternoon, they were holding class on the diamond at Firestone Stadium in the Division IV state semifinal.

COLUMBUS — “With Your Heart: Team,” are the words engraved on the wristbands of the Minster baseball players.

WAPAKONETA — It wasn’t just above average temperatures that caused the St. Henry softball team to sweat out a 5-4 win in the Division IV district semifinal against Ada on Tuesday.

FORT SHAWNEE — Delphos Jefferson and Bath both advanced to the sectional baseball finals in the Division III tournament at Shawnee High School on Saturday.

CELINA — Last season it took 15 innings for Celina and Shawnee to settle their softball tussle.

LIMA — Temperatures hovering around 40 degrees may not have been ideal, but they did not stop some of the areas tennis players from competing in the LCC Invitational at the Collett Street Courts on Saturday afternoon.

NAPOLEON — Napoleon’s gymnasium was sold out and filled with battling maroon and gold-colored ’Cats and ’Dogs on Friday when Edgerton defeated Kalida 39-36 in the Divison IV boys district final.

KALIDA – Coldwater and Archbold each punched their tickets to the district championship game with wins in the girls Division IV district basketball semifinals at Kalida High School.

Countless hours in the pool will pay off this week as many local swimmers will compete at the state swimming and diving championships at the C.T Branin Natatorium in Canton.

Just like swimming laps in a pool, the swimming season is down to the final turn and race to the wall.

BOWLING GREEN — Several area swimmers qualified last evening for next week’s state championship meet and several more will wait until the official results are released Sunday in the Division II district swim meet at Bowling Green State University.

LIMA — The Shawnee girls and Lexington boys swam off with the Division II sectional championship at the Lima YMCA on Saturday afternoon.

HARROD — Spencerville’s quick start and hot shooting doomed Allen East on Friday.

KALIDA — Sometimes the stats don’t tell the whole story. However a coach with 1,000 games under his Hall of Fame coaching belt can.

ELIDA – The Coldwater Cavaliers jumped on the Elida Lady Dawgs early and cruised to a 56-35 win in girls non-conference basketball on the Union Bank Court at the Elida Fieldhouse on Tuesday.

LIMA – Although he was not wearing a cape, Kevontae Steele played like the man of steel – Superman – as Perry overcame Waynesfield Goshen 54-47 in Northwest Central Conference boy’s basketball action at Perry High School.

DELPHOS — Barney the purple dinosaur sings about love, but the purple of the Fort Recovery Redskins showed no love for the Delphos Jefferson Wildcats (0-3).

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — For 15 seasons, Jeff Brown has led the Shawnee swimming program with great success and this season does not appear to be any different.

MASSILLON — Although he’s playing football next year for the Air Force Academy, Kirtland’s Christian Hauber looked like an army tank the way he ran over and through the Coldwater defense en route to a 28-7 win in the Division V state championship at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium

The problem with the Perry girls basketball team last season was simple: Turnovers.
