Letter: Don't treat civil unions the way we do marriages
Regarding the question of same-sex marriage, I think that falls under the general heading of rules of life. I do not think a same-sex civil union needs to be considered the same thing as a marriage between a man and a woman. The legality of the two need not be equivalent.
Same-sex unions could be like a business partnership that is not considered the same as being husband and wife and raising a family. I do not think the law should treat them with the same type of relationship because it is not a husband and wife relationship. So a same-sex civil union probably should be recognized and treated like a small business partnership and not a marriage.
