Letter: Riders, walkers need more space
Comments 0 | Recommend 0ANN RICE, LimaKudos to Clyde Rauch of Tuttle Construction for encouraging his employees to ride bikes to work. I hope they don’t get injured or killed riding on Spencerville Road, Shawnee Road or Cable Road competing with cars for space on the roads.Kudos to WLIO for the story of the woman trying to save gas money by walking to the stores in Clock Tower Plaza. She brings our attention to crossing Cable Road, even with a pedestrian crossing, is difficult to do safely. So, if our city and county leaders want to encourage us to walk or cycle around town, what are they doing to ensure we can do so safely, with sidewalks and/or bicycle lanes? If they want us to use the bus system, what are they doing to give us a schedule that can take us to our place of work early enough to meet our employers’ requirements, with service still available to take us home in the evenings?I’ll bet there are more than half a dozen of us around the area who would park our vehicles if we had viable alternatives.
