Drawing the line in

support of pro-life

Letter writer Barbara Reed recently suggested the “anti-abortion crowd should boycott the March of Dimes.” She expressed a concern that challenges every pro-life person — making donations or doing fund-raising in support of life.

It would seem that any organization with the logo “Saving Babies Together” would also be a perfect match for pro-life people. However, the problem is in its consistent respect for human life.

Is it respectful and pro-life to end the life of a developing child if there is a disease or genetic imperfection detected? Or are we making a judgment about whose life has value and who should not be respected enough to live?

Is it respectful and pro-life if children must be killed and used in research to help other children? Or are we making the statement that those human lives are not valued or respected because they have not developed to the degree of those we want to help.

If an organization chooses to use human embryos as if they are not human beings at the beginning of their growth, both physical and spiritual, than the organization is not pro-life, and any pro-life person needs to consider a new destination for his/her donation.

It is difficult to know everything about every organization. It is essential to learn more, and once informed, to choose those who support all human life.
