Lucente just a shill for Fox News

This letter is a response to Thomas J. Lucente Jr.’s column where he claims that “jackbooted government thugs” threatened a father, and his family, who posted an innocent photo of his son with his new rifle on Facebook (“Facebook photo leads to government threats,” March 24, page D4).

Here are some facts.

This father is a well-known local gun rights activist who exploited his son to make a political point. With full knowledge of the recent events at Sandy Hook Elementary School, he dressed his son in camouflage, gave him a fake AR-15, took his picture, and posted it on Facebook. Then, with his lawyer on speed dial, he waited for the reaction he expected, and desired. Then, some other responsible adult who also knew what had just happened at Sandy Hook reported this picture of a young man with an assault-type rifle.

Now here is what actually happened next. The New Jersey Department of Children and Families went to his house, asked to see his guns, he said no, they left, and never came back. And that’s all that happened.

Yet, Mr. Lucente claims these people, who were doing their jobs, are “jackbooted government thugs.” Now, Fox News, and Mr. Lucente, are also exploiting this young man for their own political purposes, which was the father’s goal all along.

Mr. Lucente simply repeats whatever he hears on Fox News. Every column should be titled, “What Sean Hannity said.” If only some “jackbooted government thugs” had investigated Adam Lanza. Right? Mr.Lucente?
