What happened to ‘We the People’
Lima News, April 13, 2013- A3, “Gun measures put some in a bind.”
No, this letter has nothing to do with any firearm laws. I read this article several times because it was so amazing. It is beyond my comprehension how any elected public servant could find themselves in a bind from the quandary: to follow any other politician, political lobbyists or party (the people didn’t even get the ruse that the politicians would endorse what’s best for the masses), or to follow the voting voices that hired them. To add insult to injury, the legislators in the article reportedly are in this bind because they are up for re-election?
If I’m reading this correctly, they are saying if it wasn’t election time, they would ignore the opinions of their constituents/employers and do as they please to further their own agenda? When did it become acceptable that the only time political representatives’ care about constituents’ is during election season? Maybe ‘We the People’ as well as our public servants should listen and follow Abraham Lincoln’s words: ‘Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from this Earth’.
