I found it very unnecessary for retired officer Don Stratton to single out female police officers in his Aug. 2 column. Officers should not be judged on their sex, but rather on their ability and success. An officer is an officer ... period.

Female officers are equal to their male counterparts in their desire to serve and protect the public. In my 28 years of law enforcement I have worked with many female officers who have exceeded in their expectations of duty. This article sounds as if hiring female officers was some sort of ‘experiment’; to see how things worked out.

The uniform is the uniform. Those who successfully fulfill their duties should be ranked on the same plane. Please appreciate all of our public servants in uniform and do not look beneath the ‘blue suit’ to see if they are male or female. If they are doing the job, we owe them our thanks.
