The day I fear is now so near
The letter by Kylen Lane-Harvey on March 15 has left me appalled and saddened by the fact that this person, like so many others, are clueless as to the meaning and intent of the 2nd Amendment. Furthermore, I believe that much of this ignorance is attributed to not knowing, nor studying, what the Constitution says and why it was written.
I couldn’t even begin to explain, as there is a limit on length of my response, so I will insert two quotes which are self explanatory, “The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” — (Thomas Jefferson) , and, “To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike especially when young, how to use them.” (Richard Henry Lee, 1788, Initiator of the Declaration of Independence)
Moreover, Kylen’s comments about our government are also naïve, as we are currently watching the destruction of our rights and the Constitution. We have a President who would be a king and a Congress in its entirety, working to establish themselves as an aristocracy, imposing laws and mandates that do not apply to them, all the while disregarding the will of the people. Government derives its power from its citizens and will take every bit they can. The more complacent and docile we become, the more evil and overbearing our government will become. It is then that we will become as other nations, subjects of a tyrannical government. That day I fear, is not far off.
