Protecting the family? Is that what Mr. Rose's letter on May 15 is an attempt to do? He implied that couples adopt foster children more for money than love — are you kidding me? Did he actually state that adoptive children suffer because they don't have close family ties with cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncle, etc?I would suggest that before Mr. Rose form an opinion on a topic and before he shares that opinion that he may want to have some experience on the topic. Most adoptive parents do not adopt for money (in fact it can be rather expensive) or to be a martyr and “save” a child. They adopt out of love and have chosen adoption as a way to share that love and complete their family. In addition, most of those adoptive children have just as close a relationship with their grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins as any of the “blood” family members that Mr. Rose referenced. So to all the adoptive parents, foster parents, birth parents, social workers, adopted children and their extend families that laugh, love, cry and know that families are formed in many different ways — Thank You for sharing your love and knowing what family really means. I am glad to live in a community where people are not fooled by such ignorance.— Curtis and Chris Shepherd, Lima
