Proud day for Elida during Quiz Bowl

This was my first exposure to the Quiz Bowl program. My grandson was on the Elida Middle School fifth-grade team. I learned a lot about how difficult the Quiz Bowl program is. The students showed great determination in wanting to represent their school.

First, they were required to pass a test to qualify. After that, they had to accept the added responsibility of after-school study groups plus study additional material at home. All this was in addition to keeping up their grades and completing homework by due dates.

When the Quiz Bowl League started, I was impressed by their composure. As the competitions progressed, I was amazed at the vast knowledge of each student and the number of different subjects covered.

The Elida student confidence seemed to grow with each match. They supported one another at all times, even if an incorrect answer was given. They worked as a team. They were always gracious at the end of each match showing good sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome. As a result of this teamís hard work, they took top honors in the fifth-grade division. I was so proud to have my grandson be part of this challenging academic program.

I am pleased that the Elida School continues to challenge our students academically, allowing them to reach for their full potential. They are our leaders of tomorrow.
