Bible bad basis for banning same-sex marriage
This is in response to those who use the Bible to defend the ban on same-sex marriage by quoting Leviticus 18:22: “Thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination.”
Leviticus also states that eating shellfish is an abomination and so is adultery. Deuteronomy states that you cannot wear a garment of mixed fabrics. It also states that a son who disobeys his parents shall be stoned to death. Deuteronomy also states that a woman who is not a virgin on her wedding day shall be taken to her father and stoned to death.
While the Bible certainly contains a lot of good advice and laws to live by, it is best to keep in mind the time they were written compared to today’s world.
We seem to have become a society of a courtroom mentality where everyone is on trial.
I believe God is a God of love, mercy and understanding; more than anyone on Earth.
On an altogether different level, (putting religion aside) maybe the real issue here is, in fact, the word “marriage.” Perhaps we need a new terminology, like the one I personally favor, “Civil Union Relationship.” But that’s my opinion, what’s yours?
