GOP leading us astray
The letters in the paper demanding we impeach President Barack Obama for the Benghazi, Libya, attack are ludicrous.
Where were these people when President George W. Bush lied about Iraq that cost the United States 4,500 dead and 16,000 mortally wounded with the arms and legs blown off?
They didn’t notice that President Ronald Reagan had more than 300 Marines killed in Lebanon, which he then pulled out all troops. If Obama did that in Libya would it be all right?
Also the sequester was initiated because Republicans refused to ask the wealthy to pay 3 percent more in taxes. Their idea was to end Medicare as we know it, cut student loans and make Social Security means tested. Now they come up with a bill called “The Smarter Solutions for Students Act,” which will increase the cost to college students an extra $16 billion in the next 10 years. Some solution!
U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, says the sequester was great as it cut spending. Four million fewer Meals on Wheels, 70,000 Head Start pupils affected, military training cut and 2,500 employees at Wright Patterson in Dayton forced to take 11 unpaid days off by September. What an accomplishment.
His “no” vote on the Farm Bill left the 23 million people who depend on it in the lurch. The first time in 40 years a Farm Bill failed to pass. Nice going Jordan!
