2,578 reasons to

support Elida levies

Support Elida Local Schools at the ballot on May 7th. Vote FOR both the renewal and the emergency levies. Even if you believe you have one good reason to vote against, there are 2,578 (grade k-12 students) excellent reasons to vote for both these issues.

If you believe in our public schools and our great teachers, you need to know that they are under attack. Yes, we have to improve in some areas, but privatizing public schools and letting “big money” cherry-pick students for elite corporate schools for profit will not serve our democracy or our economy. Warehousing marginal students or the children of the poor, the challenged, and the uninformed in underfunded public schools is a recipe for catastrophe. The public education system is still our greatest American invention.

Everyday citizens must begin to step forward. Get the facts about public schools. Spend some time in a public school. Public schools! and teachers have served this country well for hundreds of years. They will continue to do so, given the chance.

Support Elida Local Schools at the ballot box on May 7. Vote for both the renewal and the emergency levies. And then call or write your legislators at the state and national level; tell them you want them to protect public education. By the way, I was educated in private schools.

Elida has excellent schools. The state has cut funding. The district has responded with cutbacks. There is nothing left to cut that will not hurt Elida students.

— Jo Ellen Miller, Elida
