Flooding problem

can be fixed

I think an investigation should be done on the Auglaize River Clean-up Project. The county commissioners from Allen, Auglaize and Shelby counties have all decided to go ahead with this project even though ti doesnít solve anything. They had three informational meetings, and the vast majority who attended were against the project because itís a waste of taxpayers money. The original cost was $1.2 million dollars and now itís adjusted to $770,000.

The county engineers traveled most of the 60 mile project and said there was no log jams blocking the river, only small ones along the banks. They explained that this project was not going to reduce flooding.

I farmed along the Auglaize river for 40 years and either you cleaned the dead wood from the river bank or you picked it out of the field when the river flooded. Itís not the taxpayers responsibility.

Lima has two reservoirs in Amanda township and fills them from the Auglaize river. Since Lima has an eight million dollar surplus left from lat year, maybe they should pay for the project since they benefit more than anyone in NW Ohio.

Studies have been done on the Ottawa and Blanchard rivers for flood control and yet Lima has part of the solution but they wonít do it. They wonít pump flood waters into the reservoirs because itís muddy. This is nuts. Two weeks in the reservoir and the mud will settle out.

So we have a project thatís a waste of taxpayers money and Lima could provide flood control and wonít.
